In 1975 Charlie McCoy Released An Album Called "Night Life". Charlie Used 4 Steel Guitarists On The Session.
Can Anyone Identify The Steel player On The Tune "Night Life"?

Curly Chalker, Paul Franklin, Russ Hicks & Weldon Myrick.

I think the tone is too bright for Curly...my guess would either be Russ or Weldon.

doesn't sound like curly's playing style. whoever it is is emulating the big E.

Just to further muddy the waters, because of the tone, and bluesy/rock inflections, it sounds like a young Paul Franklin to me. Anyone know for sure?

Too early for Paul, surely? This was mid-'70s.

Anyway, Roger listed the four 'possibles' (presumably from the sleeve-notes) in his initial post.

this is a fun brain teaser. i heard curly and emmons in the notes. and discipline....so i guess it's paul, working out his early influences.

I just posted this question on his Facebook page. Hopefully he will respond. My feeling is either Russ Hicks or Weldon Myrick.

Even though some of the straight forward playing sounds like Weldon, the little add lives don't. They sound more like Curley. Never heard Russ play C6th but I'm sure he can but sounds nothing like him. If its Paul, he would have been pretty young.

No way is it Curly, bet my life on it, so rule him OUT....sounds like any steel player in Nashville who plays C 6....and pretty much did most of it as Buddy did it...

I agree David except I was assuming it was one of the four in original post, then I would pick Curley but you know what happens when you assume something, Smile

I agree with David. I think not Curly, Paul or Weldon. I believe it is Russ Hicks. That was a great era for hearing all the different identifiable styles of Nashville's great pedal steel players. Of course I've been wrong before, but that was a long time ago.

Tommy, I've been wrong before, too......
but, that's definitely Russ Hicks.

I'd know him anywhere.

Straight from the horse'--excuse me, directly from the source.
Delightful. Funny how Hook boldly got it right off.
This is choice music.

Hook's vote doesn't count.
He's clearly under extreme duress as a neighboring West Virginian to call it as Russ hears it.......

always go to the horse.
