Topic: Pick up choice for ZB D 10 |

If i wanted to change the pick ups on my ZB Custom is there a good replacment that could be used?There is nothing wrong with the P/U`s on my steel but i just wondered if i wanted to change them for recording what would be a good choice?.Has anyone used other p/u`s on their ZB`s with good results?

I'd be scared to do that. ZB's are known for having one of the best steel guitar sounds ever produced. I doubt that a pickup change could improve it, and it would hurt the resale value of the instrument.

Dear Jimmy, say it isn't so!
ZB pickups are my favorite, period. If you want that good ol' sound of a good ol' steel guitar, well ... there you go.
I'll trade you a new George L of your choice for it anytime. Seriously!

OH!DEAR what have i started?there is no way i would consider changing my pick up`s on my ZB, all i asked is if there was an another p/u that any one else had tried on a ZB with good results,sorry if it was taken the wrong way.but it was just a thought.thanks

Jimmy, I was starting to get concerned for you but now see you will be OK. Just some additional information about ZB. Zues is the Greek God that rules over all others, one of his attributes is the lightning bolt. Now I am sure you have seen lightning bolts in the sky but have you noticed how they appear in a jaggered line in the sky? Look close and you will see the " Z " in them and almost always followed by a very loud "B"oom.
Now you know where the ZB actually comes from. Since you were only considering such a move as replacing the pickup you have been spared the wrath of Zues. I have it on pretty good authority that he has two agents stateside, one in San Francisco, Ca and another in London,Ky.
Possibly one or both were reaching for the big switch to notify Zues and he probably would have sent a lightning bolt directly to you in England but, " and then I woke up". All is well that ends well.

Sorry guy`s but more bad news,i would never change my p/u,s but am going to have to part with my old freind,i find that my back hips and old age have taken there toll,and my old ZB is just tooooo!!!!!!heavey for me to lift in and out of my car,anymore,so i put an add in the buy and sale for a 12 string universal for a trade,please don`t think i am a traitor to ZB`s i love them but my health is more important as i have a disabled wife to look after and she is more important than any steel guitar,
May the good lord take care of our boys and girls across the other side of the world.

Hi there Jimmy,
The reason that I bought a station wagon (Estate Car) whilst still living up near Manchester on the moors was to enable me to carry all the heavy equipment including my old Z.B. SD10.
Since coming back living in Canada after a 12 year respite I aquired a D10 Z.B. so I still had to own something that was easier to get into the back of the vehicle including all the other stuff required to play steel - this time I went with one of the popular 4Xs out here.
You'll rue the day believe me if you let the Z.B. go.
