We ran a few of these in various sizes- if they are exposed to very bright light, they emit a fairly healthy glow for about 30 minutes. After that they are just an attractive white bar. They do show up really well under a black light.

how long will the powder hold up? string friction would be murder on the finish i would assume. i do a lot of powder coating of various things and it def isn't a sure thing for wear.

Hello Roy, the life of a powder coated bar seems to vary widely with the players. String composition and left hand pressure/technique seem to be the main factors. Some players are getting years of use, some just months. We make them available at a reasonable price, and recoat them at cost for the players that do like the feel, looks and tone of a coated bar. They were lost in Chilean cyberspace for some time due to COVID restrictions, Lockdowns, etc.
Now, my white powder coated bar is my favorite bar.

I purchased my coated bars back in the beginning and they are still going strong ....so at least 5 or 6 years of good service for a bedroom picker.
Enjoyed the video posted above of some friends jamming to demonstrate your bars.
The fellow on bass guitar was rockin just like he did as a teenager......

Just wanted to say thanks! and tell you how cool these bars are. By day they're incognito white tone bars - but at night they really shine  There's a little more than 30 minutes of glow on a few minute "charge". I notice no difference in playability compared to the other 3 Hillman bars I own- which means they're pretty dang perfect! Cheers

Hello all,
Several weeks ago I bought a couple of Michael Hillman's powdercoated steels and really like the way they handle and sound on my steel guitar. Easy on the hand and tames the high notes, as someone else noted.
Here's a photo of the steels.
The red steel is one the grooved models, and I named it Red Hill Roger. The white one is a TMY signature Glow In The Dark model. When charged and placed in the dark it looks like a fiery opal, so I named it Opie.
Michael has great customer service, and is very approachable w/ any questions or ideas you have.
