I and my family will be in Hawaii for 2 weeks in August for a hopefully unforgettable holiday. As someone who loves the Hawaiian steel guitar and keeps struggling with it, any chance I'd find live steel guitar music in Honolulu? If so, where are my best chances? Also, is it possible to find old steel guitar sheet music in Hawaii and even vintage instruments?
Thanks
John

Stay in touch when your about to leave and I'll try to make sure of the last minute info, but as you'll see there isn't much happening nor will you have much luck finding vintage stuff but Harry's Music in Kaimuki carries sheet music.

I don't know how it is now, but Island Guitars, on Oahu, was a great place for vintage instruments: http://www.islandguitars.com

I have not visited the 50th State for 25 years or so, and probably would no longer recognize places I was once familiar with.

I agree with Chris that Island Guitars is worth checking out. Here are two gems I purchased there in the mid-1980s when they were in a little hole-in-the-wall space on the 2nd(?) floor of an ancient building in downtown Honolulu. I have never regretted buying these two.

Check out Honey's at the Ko'olau golf club near Kailua on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons. Both groups usually have excellent steel guitarists(Derrick Mau and Paul Kim, respectively). Also Alan Akaka is usually at the Marriott in Waikiki on Thursday nights.
