Adobe flash plug-in problem

Post by Ron Victoria »

I have win 7 and use Firefox as my browser. Adobe flash plug-in will work after closing/opening the browser, but crash soon after. I did install the latest version months ago. I did some searching and found that I should do a complete uninstall first, then download the latest version. Will this solve the problem or is a Firefox problem?
thanks, Ron

Ron.

What is your Firefox version? (29.0 is current I believe)

Also, what is your Flash version (13.0.0.206 I believe is latest)

How long have you had these problems?

Ron;
Uninstall Flash via Control Panel. Reboot. do not open any browsers. Go to My Computer and open the C drive, then navigate to each of the following locations and delete the Flash or Flash Player folders:
  1. C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
  2. C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash (on 64 bit systems only)
  3. %appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player
  4. %appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player
You can get to your %AppData% folders easily by using the Run box. Click on Start > Run, then copy and paste the third location and press Enter. After you delete the Flash Player folder at that location, go up out of the Adobe folder and scroll down the list of programs to the Macromedia folder. Open it and delete the Flash Player folder and its contents.

FYI: %AppData% is a shortcut to the actual location of each logged on user account's "Application Data" directory. The symbolic path can be followed via My Computer > C > Users > {your logged in user name} > AppData > Roaming.

Download CCleaner from www.piriform.com. Install it (Admin credentials must be supplied, via a UAC prompt) and open it. Accept the defaults, including Smart Cookie scanning.

Click on the Cleaner icon (broom) button on the left, then on Run Cleaner on the bottom left. It will take a half minute of so to finish cleaning out your temporary files.

When the cleaner completes, click on the Registry button below it, on the left. A list of options with checkboxes will open. Uncheck "Unused File Extensions" then click "Scan for Issues." When the scan stops at 100%, look for any entries related to Flash and Flash Player. Place checkmarks in those entries and click "Fix selected Issues." Say Yes to save a backup file to the default location of "My Documents." Fix all selected issues.

Reboot. Now, using Firefox, go to http://www.adobe.com/go/EN_US-H-GET-FLASH. Uncheck the offer to download other software, unless you think you want whatever it is. Make sure the correct browser and operating system is selected, then download the Flash installer. Run the file, accepting the UAC Admin credentials prompt.
