Paddy, no one except myself ever carries the well padded gig bag, so if it was damaged it would be no ones fault but mine. I very rarely play out these days so it is not an issue now, have only played out three times this year,,guitar in case for two gigs and in gig bag for one, and at moment no plans to do any more gigs this year, unless someone offers really good cash, otherwise it will be staying at home.

Agreed.. In the last 20 years I can count on zero fingers how many time any of my instruments got damaged in transit (in my hands) But I can tell you that one time the Bass player , for whatever reason, decided to walk behind me , ( sitting on Steel seat) between me and my amp and guitars and knocked down both of my guitars that were on stands. My " worry factor " is up when my gear is on stage, not in the car !

I did however get an "oh I am so sorry" as I watched my Telecaster and Strat take a nose dive to the floor...That made me feel much better. Rolling Eyes

Will, Scott Dixon case is 15lbs( 7kgs) appx. He custom builds for each guitar so weight could alter.Mine was originally for my D10 Mullen but fits my MSA Millenium perfectly. They are not cheap but are excellent cases.

Here is my Red Dirt split cases I use for my Zum Hybrids ...very solid, yet still light, and with wheels on the main body case. Expensive but well worth the cost for the amount of travel I do.

Hi John

Thanks for the post. You are always innovative, even with your playing....lol. For those of us who have ailments, this seems like another option in lieu of the weight factor.

Although, when you have an "Axe" like Paddy Long, you want to ensure protection at any level. He does have the epitome of "Gem of a guitar". A real beauty!

I have been searching for a case for an S10. I was recommended the SKB compact stand case, which is an ATA flight rated case:
http://www.amazon.com/SKB-Compact-Wheels-Straps-Latches/dp/B0002F7C68
but it turned out to be a little bit too expensive to get to Australia, so I ended up getting a "road case" (not ATA rated) for a 49 key keyboard:

(the Amazon link is US dollars, the VFM link is in AUS dollars)

This looks like what I need. I'm taking lessons and the instructor's music room is in the basement. There are two turns to get to the stairs and then an open stairway. Taking my Legrand II SD10 in the factory case down to this basement is really scary. I'll be 82 this month and even though I can manage it, I don't like to do it. Not a question of money, really a question of what's safe and practical.

I realize the original posting was over 4 years ago, but John, or anyone, what is the foam rubber used for padding and where can it be purchased?

Malcom McMaster,
Thanks for the photos of the Scott Dixon case. Are they only sold in the UK? I tried several searches but found nothing. If you know of the USA telephone number, please let me know. Thanks. Steve Takacs
