I am a beginner. I have had my 1984 Emmons SKH sd10 for a few months. I try to tune the pedals, but some of the end tuners just click when I turn them, others work fine. I'm afraid they might be stripped. Can anyone please tell me if they sound like they are stripped and where I can get them if they are? Thanks for any help. |

More than likely the the ones that click are cracked or split. The nylon tuners are not expensive. So replace them as needed.
You can order them from several Emmons dealers here on the forum, like Mike Cass, Lynn Staffard, and others. Order a few extras, they do wear out.
New ones are self threading, so you may find them a little
hard to start. |

Marvin is right. It's the nylon tuners. The ones you're having trouble with are cracked or broken. As he mentions, they're incredibly easy to replace and then you're back in business.
Yes, the problem could be due to something else but, percentage-wise, it's highly unlikely. |

Thanks alot guys. I didn't know if they could be adjusted or not, but if they're not expensive then it don't matter I'll just change them. Do I just unscrew the old ones or do I have to loosen the strings to take tension off? |

Hi Jason -
I think you should just be able to loosen them - there shouldnt be "tension" on those rods. If there is then theyre pulling on the changer fingers even at rest - thats not a good thing IMO.
Each "pull" shouldnt be pulling before its engaged....

Sometimes you can take a "stripped' tuning nut off and turn it around and get enough meat for the threads of the rod to bite into as a temp fix until you get new ones. This only works if your tuning nuts are open all the way through.

You do not have to loosen the strings. |

Sounds like the set screw at the swivel is not locked down on the rod. Very rare for nylon tuners to strip. |
