I was Listening to Eddie Stubbs last night and he mentioned that Van Howard had passed away Tuesday Oct 3. Van use to sing that high harmony with Ray Price in the 50's. R.I.P. Van.

Charlie, I saw them live once when I was a teenager and he nailed those parts for sure. Do you know if he ever did anything on his own?.....JH in Va.

Hey Jerry-It was hard to find much info on Van. I know he moved to Texas and I'm not sure but if you bring up archives on Ernest Tubbs Midnight Jamboree there is likely a show with Van as the host. Hope this helps.

Jimmy Day introduced me to Van Howard about 20 years ago when we did a western swing festival in Texarkana, playing twin steels with Johnny Bush. Van was in attendance and was the nicest man to meet and converse with about the "old days."

He gave up the music biz in the 60's and went into banking, where he became quite successful. He could have become a country star, IMHO. He had the voice, charm, and drop-dead good looks.

He cut a few records by himself and they were great. In my opinion he helped make some of those Ray Price records great.

Sorry to hear this sad news about Van.

I posted a question about Van on Ray Price's website a few years back. Van sent me an email back.

He was a gentleman and great singer with RP.

RIP Van Howard
