I knew Pete's bro.,can't remember his first name ,everybody just called him "Pappy Drake",a great jazz style guitarist, nice guy too.
This is a cool version of Ferlin's song:

Pete's brother Jack Drake played bass for Ernest Tubb for 24 years.
Pete sang on a few non talking steel songs also. I've got one at home and will post it unless someone beats me to it.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Greg.I remember the name now, guess when you get to my age the first thing to go is.......,what was the question?I forgot.I didn't know "Pappy" played bass,I knew him from Bill Testers 1440 club in Santa Clara Calif. & when there was a jam he played guitar.Had a lot of good times there. This was in the mid to late 60's. |

Pete recorded a tune on C-6, written by Hal Rugg. The title is "My Bluest Day".
Can someone post this tune?

I couldn't find a you tube video of that song,Last-FM radio has a entry of Pete Drake music but they don't have that in their catalog,it is on the "Forever" album I'm told. |

I'm pretty sure the organ part on Dylan's "Tell Me That It Isn't True" is Pete Drake. Its brilliant! I can't find a youtube of it though. _________________ Bob |

I've got that on an old Starday album. I never realized that that was Pete singing. I always thought that maybe it was the Willis Brothers doing the vocals for Pete. _________________ Sho-Bud: Professional & Fingertip |

Bill Drake in California was Pete's brother. I worked with him in the bay area at different times and yes he like to play jazz style lead guitar. It is true Jack Drake was upright bass player for Ernest Tubbs for many years. _________________ Carter D12, MSA S12, 12 String Custom Made Non-Pedal, Evans FET 500LV, Evans SE200, Peavey Nashville 400, Fender Steel King |

It always disappointed me how many people criticized Pete Drake, I put it down to them not listening to enough of his work and picking up on a few memorable licks which are still remembered and sometimes copied today.
Listening to these videos that Paul has linked us to Pete was a man way ahead of his time and had he lived a while longer the pedal steel just might have diversified into other genres of music earlier......I might be correct in saying we had about a 20 year gap until a certain Paul Fanklin kicked it off again world wide with Mark Knopfler as Pete had done with Dylan , Harrison etc. |

It probably is , he also did string sounds and once said he was the cheapest string section in Nashville. |

A YouTube search will turn up quite a bit of Pete Drake's recordings, as well as this informational video on his career, recording with Ringo and "Goldie".
