Hi folks,

I have an old Epiphone Alkire Eharp.

It is in really good shape, except it is falling apart.

The body seems to be made of three pieces of wood that are nicely joined together.

But the binding has cracked and the piece of the guitar body that has the palm rest affixed to it has separated from the middle plank, presumably from the weight of the hand on the palm rest for the last however many decades. It is not completely separated, as the felt piece on the bottom holds it all together, as well as the internal parts of the jack that run to the pickup.

It is a clean separation, and the instrument still plays and sounds very good.

I will take some pictures of this, but thought I'd just describe the problem and say,

What is the right way to go about fixing this?

Adam, the same thing happened to one of my old Supros. The wood body broke apart. It was made up of three joined sections and one broke off. My local guitar repair shop fixed it with wood glue and a large C-clamp. No problem.

BTW I have the same guitar, a 1940s Epiphone Alkire Eharp. It's a real sweet sounding lap steel.
