I though this one was pretty cool. Not to flashy steel playing, but I liked the version when I saw Robert sing it at Wanee a couple of months ago.

Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Jim Webb, Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders, now Robert Plant. This is great. These stars can have anything they want in their bands. The fact that they are using steels shows that they see what a great instrument it is and how much it can enhance their sound.
At the same time, they are introducing the steel to their fans. (I seriously doubt that any of Robert Plant's fans also like to listen to Ray Price shuffles.) There's a good chance some of those fans will be inspired to take up the instrument.
I've said many times that the steel is not a country instrument, it's simply an instrument. People are starting to see that, and Morrison, Dylan, Hynde, Jim Webb, and now Plant, as well as Robert Randolph (and of course Susan Alcorn, although in a completely different way,) are teaching them. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Cool use of the pedal steel in one of Led Zep's most popular songs. I liked it. _________________ Guitars: Rittenberry SD S-10, Gretsch Black Falcon. Effects: Wampler Paisley, Strymon Timeline, Sarno Earth Drive.

I recorded with Melodic Metal virtuoso Neil Zaza. His take was that it was like a string trio, but better! He likes the sound, and the movement. |
