John both your hand techniques, left and right seem to be correct.
You’re paying attention to blocking with your right hand and your fingers are trying to stay down on the strings for your left hand.
In addition you’re moving the tone bar across the strings as the string selection dictates.
That’s good.
Your touch and movements will certainly improve the more you play.
All in all good job for your “Newbie Self”
How long have you been playing?
Keep it up.

Thanks. That's the kind of feed back that helps. I got my Stageone the January before last, and I played a lot for the first four or five months, but then got distracted by mandolin and quit for awhile, and then about a month ago I went back to it. (But I have played lap steel for a year or so previous).
I'm really trying to stick to pedal steel this time. It's a frustrating instrument, but very rewarding.
