There are several references on the forum that profile the strong Dutch involvement with Hawaiian music in days gone by.

I was fortunate several years ago locate two nice examples of the Dutch lap steel....Vox Humana.

They are a very substantial guitar , with a fair amount of thick , ornate, aluminum in the neck and back cover plate.

I have not found much history of the Vox Humana lap steel other than some references that they were made in the late 1940”s

If anyone can share The history of this brand , who might have played a Vox Humana or share pictures of their guitar greatly appreciated

Mike

Here are some pictures that I posted back in 2012. Vox Humana lap steel... not mine, unfortunately.

The Vox Humana company is still in business. They're a guitar retail store, with a large selection of guitar parts (necks, bodies, electronisc etc.)
There's a history page on their website, with a few nice photo galleries of their lapsteels. Including an 8 string that was built in 2006!

I guess nobody has to ask, where's the BEEF! Did that company make tanks during WWII? How much does one of those weigh? In pounds..........I couldn't understand too much when I went to their website. Wink

Doug

Thanks for posting Vox Humana pics...that is a very nice survivor

Bill

The guitar is relatively heavy at 10.5 lbs
I have a picture of a double neck that really must be a beast to handle.
If I can stretch my technical skills to the limit will post a video to share sound.
It is a strong , mellow sound..more Gibson than Fender.

Josephus

Thanks for posting link to Dutch site.
I like the "factory shop " picture
If you are able to learn and share additional information from Dutch Internet sites about Vox Humana lap steel that would be great
