Greetings,
My name is Melody Freeman,
This is my first experience on a forum.
I am multi-instrumentalist and a recently retired church music director. I am learning Pedal Steel as a retirement activity. My husband used his PayPal to register, unfortunately we have learned that we can not change my name in the profile settings, so I will Also be Known As AKA Lindsay Freeman. My husband is AKA Phil Freeman. confused yet? because I am.
I will mostly be listening to what you all have to say, but will be asking a few question.
We have changed my profile email so if I get any replies, hopefully they will come to my email.
Hope to hear from some of you in the future.
Musically,
Melody _________________ Melody Freeman |

Thanks for the reply. This is still Lindsay (Phil) Freeman, we are trying to get the email changed in the settings, it doesn't like any of our password attempts.
To answer your question, Yes Melody does have a Texas Pedal Steel D10.
A very very nice guitar She recently acquired a Stereo Steel amp.
Melody has been gigging out on fiddle and piano for years with a Peavey Vegas 400, it works great but is very heavy.
Hopefully we will be able to get the email switched and cut me out of the conversations, I hope I haven't embarrassed her yet, no doubt I will if I keep replying for her

Hello Melody, Welcome to the Forum. Your musical background will serve you well in learning pedal steel. There is a wealth of free instruction on Youtube these days. Even so, if you can find a local teacher to help you get started you will make faster progress. Feel free to ask questions. Forum members are always willing to share their knowledge. So, welcome to the madness!

Welcome!
I pastor a church and occasionally play guitar or steel as part of service.
The E9 tuning really clicked for me when I started arranging for steel out of the hymnal. I'd recommend the exercise to anyone learning steel, but especially to anyone who already has an appreciation of hymnody. |

Welcome to the Forum.
With your considerable music experience.
A good instructor or course is a good way to begin on steel guitar
I suggest that to help understand the E9th neck, Obtain a copy of the Mel-Bay E9th Chord Chart, It is for sale here on the Forum, At left top of forum page click on INSTRUCTION, On page 2 it is listed. Best $8.00 reference you will find.
It shows what pedal or knee lever to engage, And strings to pick for each chord, Major, Minor, 7th, Diminish and Augmented chord. With standard E9th tuning.
Good Luck and Happy Steelin, On your journey with pedal steel. |

Welcome to the Steel Forum Melody. I’m in Central Illinois, but there are quite a few steel players in Southern Il. and there is a great steel show in Mt Vernon Il. In mid April every year. You will find the forum to be a friendly environment with a wealth of information. Best wishes to you as you start your journey into the world of steel guitar. |

Does anyone use a pre-amp plugged into a power amp? If so, what do you use? I would like to perhaps find a Stereo Steel Pre-amp. What pre-amp do some of you use? _________________ Melody Freeman |

Bob, thank you very much. I have been to some steel guitar shows, and I played the fiddle with some of the steel guitar players at the Mt. Vernon Steel Guitar Show this past April. _________________ Melody Freeman |
