Thanks Nic Very Happy

I've been to hell and back trying to find a pickup for it that will give me a single-coil sound, without the hum, as the original Marlen single-coil sounded good, but the hum was intolerable.

I finally alighted on a George L E66, which, with a bit of amp tweaking, is the closest I can get (with a humbucker) to the sound that I want Very Happy

The cleanest single coil sound without any hum, I find, was with an Alumitone....awesome pickup...... But, as I prefer the humbucker sound, I opted for re-installing my George L E66's.
If it's the single coil sound you're after, and you can lay your hands on an Alumitone.....go for it. Ultra quiet.

Nice one Richard....great tone there there, and you're going right into the "Hughey" land up the fret board with no probs at all. I bet you've "tweaked" the undercarriage knowing you Laughing

As I thought Richard...a mass of springs Laughing I still brag to people about that double lower you made for my Carter 2nd string is the best I've tried. Sooo precise and no overshoot on the 1st lower. Good on you, it's nice to know somebody who can tinker and make something better for to their own taste.

At long last a friend here in Essex is converting my old Sho-Bud case so it just takes the body. As you remember they made big cases to take the volume pedal as well. I already have a seperate case for the legs, Pedal bracket etc which works for both my Carter and Sho-Bud. Will be nice to take the 'Bud out on a gig. Just too heavy as it is in the original case. Love to Cynthia...take care.

Richard,

Nice sound, and you are correct on the old pull-release steels.

I still have to get mine back together, and I'll let you hear another, however a G.E.S. After the years of playing it, I simply can't get the same results out of these newer steels.

Then too, maybe it's my bad playing that's doing it from too much time off. Struggling to make a comeback for my own use this time around. And to date, it's sure not all that good. Smile

I'm down to only being able to use my left leg for the knees, only until after surgery, hopefully!

Nice job
