This is not lap steel, but it is a bakelite Rickenbacher (Spanish neck), bottleneck slide, Ry Cooder, and pretty freakin' amazing!

Thanks for the link, Fred!
"Pretty freakin' amazing" is what I would call a massive understatement when it comes to Ry Cooder.
I would like to follow Ry around and catch the excess music in a bucket that drips off him and have a little bit of it for myself.

Pretty good. Who would have believed it started out as a Woody Guthrie song ?
I prefer this version...

It's more true to the original, and I like the guitar work more.

That totally rocks!
60's & 70's country rock is my favorite, Martin & Taylor acoustic, Fender & Washburn electric, Rickenbacher BD 8 lap steel, violin.

Moved to Music from Steel Without Pedals.
Those Spanish (round) neck Rickenbacher Bakelite guitars are very rare. Of course, being Ry Cooder, he'd get a great sound out of any board with strings. Thanks for sharing!

What a soulful genius! Ry hasn't lost lost a single step since I first heard him in the '70's.

I just spent the last half hour listening to this and many other YouTube videos of Ry Cooder. I particularly liked his work with John Lee Hooker. Ry Cooder is a great talent.
