Paul Franklin takes the steel guitar out of the COUNTRY category which most people think thats all steel is!
Ive sat there watched these guys live and wow dont get no better, for those who can only play country on the steel I suppose this would sound weird to them. The steel is an intrusment capable of all kinds of music !!
Paul and Brent are the best over there hence why they on nearly every cd coming outta Nashville today, amazing !!!

You are very accurate in your observations. I believe the last Nashville produced CD I bought was Gretchen Wilson because I wanted "When I Think About Cheating". I ripped that song to my MP3 and I don't even know what ever happened to the CD. 
Hey, when's the new Georgette CD coming out? It is on Track Pitcox label right? Looking forward to that. |

You surprise me Jamie, I didn't know anything was coming out of Nashville today that would interest the listener. What was it the man said "Murder on Music Row" Didn't I read that place closed its doors years ago.

James, In all fairness we should try to be accurate. It's obvious from the popularity and record sales, that what's coming out of Nashville is of great interest to a lot of listeners. Maybe not devoted country fans like you and I, but we're a drop in the bucket. I think it was Brent Mason that said in an interview that he was not required to play much country, rather rock and roll. Paul commented in another thread about his respect for Dicky Overbey, and I'm sure Dicky has a lot of respect for Paul. There just different kinds of players, both very good at what they do, and should be credited for their accomplishments.
I've never made it a secret that my preference doesn't just lean toward, but falls all over, traditional country music. However, I've also tried not to let this present any indication that I don't have respect for the talents of those that play other types of music. |

Well maybe so James, theres still great COUNTRY Music there just gotta find the open doors there. And theres a few! One great door is the door to the staiton inn on a MOnday night, where you can see Paul.....as a steel player its a must....an education

Ohhh a another door to open is the door to the 3rd and Lindlsey where the Players play, maybe Richard and James can go there and listen to some "flobble, flobble" or myabe listen to how to steel can do other things apart from Country. Like I said its an education.

I can't think on the same level as these players, it's totally alien to me.
It really does sound to me as if somebody has put their head in a bowl of water, and repeatedly exclaims "flobble"
I'm quite sure that these players have far superior talent than I can even imagine, and a lot of people love this style of music, but I just can't listen to it, I guess I must have the brainpower of an amoeba

I can't think on that level either...as much as I liked Chalker, I couldn't see where he was going most of the time...I've always liked Emmons doing Jazz cuz somehow it made sense to me, though in however many lifetimes you give me, I'd never be able to duplicate it...guess I'll just appreciate the musicianship of the likes of Paul, Buddy, Danny and their kind...

It is a very common method of playing an instrument, go to any Rock Concert and you will hear the Guitarist or Keyboard player play these same noodles for 15 minutes in every song, if its a Jazz outfit it will be the Trumpet or Sax, they are regarded as God's too by their fans.
