Just got word that legendary Texas guitarist Leon Chambers passed away this morning. Not unexpected, given his worsening condition the past few months, but sad nonetheless. The big swing band upstatirs just got one hell of a guitar player.
Sarah said there are no plans for funeral services at this time, just a BBQ at some later date that will celebrate his life. If I hear of any change in plans I'll post here as soon as I find out.
Rest in peace, my friend. |

I have been afraid this day was coming soon and send out my thoughts and prayers to the whole family.
You are right Bob - he always had that half smile and played the Phoenix show with a broken finger he closed in a car door when he got here. What a trooper and what a guy.
RIP Mr. Leon you will be missed. _________________ Joe Naylor, Avondale, AZ (Phoenix) Announcer/Emcee owner www.steelseat.com *** OFFERING SEATS AND Effects cases with or without legs and other stuff ****** -Desert Rose Guitar S-10, Life Member of the Arizona Carport Pickers Assoc., Southwest Steel Guitar Assoc., Texas Steel Guitar Assoc., GA Steel Guitar Assoc., KS Steel Guitar Assoc. As the old saying goes, "Leon played more by 9:15 PM than most guys played all night."
Great player and a super nice person.
He will be missed.
You're right about the Big Swing Band receiving one of the best.............. _________________ Ray Harrison

I am truly saddened by this. I enjoyed his friendship very much when we were neighbors, and the few times that we were able to play together were extra special.
I will always be proud to call him my friend. _________________ Jim Keith

I met Leon at the TSGA jubilee and was struck with his
humility and honesty. For years we saw one another but once a year, and yet he remained as friendly as the first day. A musicians "musician". He will sorely missed.

What a player and what a friend. God Bless each and all of his family and friends. We sure will miss him. Ditto on the great swing band in Heaven getting another great player.

I gained so much respect for him this past decade, as I watched him play two and three parts harmony around any melody line. He could make two guitars sound like a "section." The few visits I had with him were special. Play on, Leon. Dale Thomas |

I also met Leon at the TSGA and each year that I visited the show he would always go out of his way to say Hi and make you feel welcomed. He will be sadly missed. _________________ www.westernstarlanders.com |
