That's exactly why i enjoy playing C6th, and ONLY C6th. Curly still is one of my all time favorites. Thanks for posting.

Nice, very nice.

Man had the killer chops. That last, descending lick on Curly's solo drew a few smiles from the band.

Roy Clark had great vocals on it, too.

Sometimes that's the only applause we get, Mike. I'll take it wherever it comes from.

I know, right? All one has to do is listen to George Jones at Dancetown USA, or Jimmie Rivers and Vance Terry to understand. That's what I'm used to. Smile

I believe we refer to that as "polite indifference."

Jimbeaux
Please excuse my polite indifference to your last post, right now I'm putting some applesauce and sour cream on my latkes.

b0b? oh, b0b? I believe the tone of the conversation has drifted to off-topic. Time for some moderator action, perhaps? Laughing

Wait a minute... you mean the audience did not break into spontaneous applause halfway through Curly's solo? It's phony? I am shocked, shocked to know this! You guys have shattered the bubble.

Just edited my post, as I just talked to my bud in Nashville;

My best friend worked on post production audio for Hee Haw's whole run. I'll have to ask him if they added canned applause Probably. I know, because I used to stand behind the cameramen during my visits to Nashville. Some of the show's had a decent-sized audience, up to 300, but many did not. JL just told me "No audience for Hee Haw! He did add canned laughter and applause!
PS; I cracked up watching JL add the "boing" Timpani sound to the two guys bumpin' tummies!

As long as the music is not canned, it's good.

A buddy of mine who worked for years on Hee-Haw told me that wants and needs of the band was never of that much importance to the producers of the show. In the official "book" about Hee-Haw, none of the band members were ever mentioned, except for one reference to Charlie McCoy as the band leader.

Beauregard... the dog... got a full page write-up, alternately.

A request to recut a particular song track was nixed by the producer as unnecessary: "This is teleVISION, not teleAUDIO."

That speaks volumes. Still a funny show, though my preferences run towards the British comedies, despite the lack of steel guitar therein.

Y'know Jimbeaux, there is a edit/delete button on these posts. Not sure if you're aware of that fact.

Jeez, that man Chalker could be absolutely outrageous! The absolute master of the C neck. I played that break so many times my normally placid and laid back wife complained. Laughing Laughing

I have heard some people say that Curly wasn't always musically correct, but what the heck - if it sounds good it is good.

The first gig I did with Hank Thompson, I played his music the whole way down to the gig, 2 hours in the car. My wife never listened to Hank Thompson again.

There are no wrong notes, only incorrectly emphasized notes. In the heat of battle we sometimes fall into "kinetic" playing where stream of consciousness takes over and our hands and heart overrule the decisions of the brain. All the master do it, and Curls was no exception.

That's because with my posts, the "delete" button is totally unnecessary. Perhaps b0b can set you up with the same deal I've got. Wink
