I can't let this thread go without a mention of another fine guitarist and pal of Dave Edmunds - Micky Gee, the Master of the Telecaster.
Micky and Dave went back a long way and there was always a friendly rivalry and respect between them. Two country pickers them.
One of Micky's first brushes with fame was with some guy called Tom Jones as one of the Squires. I believe that Mr. Jones and the boys had a bit of a hit with something called 'It's not unusual', if I'm not mistaken.
Remember Dave's 'I hear you knocking'? That's Mick with the Lick.
Micky went on to play for Shakin' Stevens and contributed greatly to his success. All Cardiff boys, including me.
Unfortunately Micky passed away in early 2009 and his funeral was almost an archive of early rock'n'roll.
Sadly missed.

Thanks for the link, Joachim.
Along with Micky there's Andy Fairweather Lowe, another Cardiff boy, who is still playing rhythm with Eric Clapton. there's even Geraint Watkins on the keys. He's from just up the road in Abertridwr.
They do say that we Welsh are a musical people, well, we certainly know how to rock!
And then to simply make my day, I've just scored this on eBay -

Just as a last tribute to old pals, here's another clip. I was there, that night, on the guest list with my late wife and we rocked the night away. Happy days, eh!

Big apology for the partial thread hi-jack but nostalgia just ain't what it used to be and I do tend to ramble a bit nowadays. |

Robert I don't think we must apologize, I think Roger Rettig wouldn't mind to see this topic drift to the Welsh music scene from a few decades ago. I like to hear first hand stuff like yours. It's very interesting!
Man, another band from Wales was very poular here in the early seventies. I never went to their concerts because I was more of a country rock, soft rock fan. But in hindsight, maybe, that was a mistake.
Are there still any good Rock'n'Roll bands left in Wales? _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

Billy Bremner is a great example of a great player being a team player. On all the Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds albums billy was playing the cool parts and guitar hooks of the songs and some of the solos. Some great live videos of those days on you tube. |
I thought that was all Dave on those records. Which cool parts have I thought were Dave but were actually played by Billy? _________________ Santo Fan Club - from the island of Coney to the sands of Rockaway
