Norman Hamlett and drummer Biff Adam, sidemen for Merle Haggard, were inducted Sunday into the Sacramento Western Swing Society Hall of Fame. It was a real thrill for me to get to sing with them. On Sunday Sweet Sue Thompson arrived and sang a few songs for us. She is indeed "sweet".
As you may know Merle and Chester Smith, who is a household name in these parts, recorded a CD together titled "California Blend". Merle and Chester showed up to see their friends inducted. Merle sang for us and he and Chester did a couple of songs off the new CD. Boy howdy, the people who made the decision to attend this year's awards got a wonderful surprise on top of all the great talent already scheduled for the weekend.
