The real shame here is that in my opinion all things considered, Ron Wood is the most talented member of that group.

I think he tuned "equal torment" when he should'a tuned "just incarceration". Fantastic tone, though. Like they say, you can recognize an Emmons a mile away. Mr. Green

Let's give them high marks for just plain guts. Or, if you want to meet half way, just plain nuts. I was a Stones fan right before I turned on the Haggard and Buck. If they'd followed Waylon's footsteps a bit closer, I'd still be a fan, especially with an Emmons on the gig.

I have to agree; give the guy ten stars for absolute courage. When a hard rocker can sit down to a pedal steel and hammer out recognizable chords, he has to be doing something right.

I wonder how much learning or practice time he had on that Emmons?

whew .... I was worried somebody put one of my shows on youtube.

Ron must have wanted to do it, they could have hired in anyone for that gig.

WOW !! Giving Ron Wood a steel guitar is kinda like giving a scare crow a machine gun - WHY? I would like to have that old Emmons he's playing though. I started out with a black one just like it (Sticker instead of emblem) but let it get away from me. We do some foolish things when we're young. Winking

Well, why not go the rest of the way - I found this one out there a few weeks ago, from 1979 (with Keith Richards and The Barbarians) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuUr-cB7PnY - along with a discussion about it here - http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=147361

Or these Stones clips that I think are fairly recent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBhSQTv0GcU or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLNx5Fv8vOc

How many years is that?

You're right, Ron - they got guts. I think most anybody will concede that Ronnie is a guitar player, not a steel player.

Yeah, that's one of the things that worries me about this kinda' stuff. The strange part is that - it seems to me, anyway - that an awful lot of rockers think this is what country music is about. I don't understand it, but I think it's true.

nice find Dave on that barbarians clip. That was rough. Geez, heroin is a harsh mistress. well Ronnie has been playing steel for at least thirty years then right? Very Happy

for the record...The stones are my favorite band. I liked em best during the Mick Taylor years. rock on.

I criticized his intonation on the above thread and got lambasted! I guess it's safer to speak your mind on this thread. Smile

Ron, you are embarrasing yourself. Get off that one fret, pleeeeeeeeease. He played the same A/B pedal stomp through the whole song. This lets me off the hook!

HNY all. Off to a gig in the AM and a couple days storm watching at the Ocean.

Thanks too for all the help in a tough year.
