Arhoolie Records president Chris Strachwitz will be the first recipient of the Bess Lomax Hawes National Heritage Fellowship, which was created to recognize extraordinary "keepers of tradition" who teach, collect, preserve and advocate folk and traditional arts. Chris has been documenting and recording vernacular and regional roots music since 1960. He will receive $10,000 and be honored at a ceremony in Washington, DC in September.

Congratulations to Mr. Strachwitz!

Personally, I've been enjoying Chris' records for many years. The Arhoolie Records archives should be considered as a national/historical treasure and I think Chris is very deserving of the award.
