Non-pedal steeler par excellance Ken Emerson and his jazz singing partner Michaelle Edwards will be coming from Hawaii to Florida (based in Orlando) Sept. 18-27. I have offered to help coordinate some gigs for them.
For those not familiar with Ken, he is a top-notch player of acoustic and electric steel as well as slack key. Among the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Assn. troops his "Slack and Steel" album is highly regarded. Ken has recorded mostly acoustic (vintage Nat'l Tricone), but his electric lap steel work is very tasty too. Their new CD, "Swining in Paradise," showcases their talents in jazz/swing. To me, Ken's (electric) solo on "Do Nothing 'Til You Hear From Me" is worth the price of the CD.
Anyone in FL who is interested in helping host/coordinate a gig, please email me. Ken and Michaelle aren't looking to make big bucks, as they will be in FL visiting relatives. |
