In case you are not aware of it, Doug is holding an E9 seminar at Stoney's Smokey Mountain Steel Guitar Jamboree on Friday, March 31st from 9AM to 4PM and the price is ONLY $60. The steel guitar show begins that Friday night after the seminar.

Anyway, I called Doug to get some info about the seminar.

1. E9 beginner to intermediate

2. Bring your Guitar, headphones and tape recorders. Doug provides the tab.

3. He will teach various scales and the forward roll.

4. He will teach at least one slow song and one or two fast tunes like "Rocky Top" and maybe "I'll Fly Away." They will be tabbed and you can record what he is teaching with your tape recorder.

5. He plans on a discussion of the Nashville Number System. We can probably get his advice on how to count off a song.

6. The BEST PART is that he will work on our technique and will go around and look at our hands to help identify and correct any bad habits!

Doug said he has found that many beginners have developed bad habits in their technique and he helps to identify those and suggests exercises to develop proper technique. I am sure that beginners are not the only ones who develop bad habits!

Doug also teaches one-on-one in his home. It is a two-day schedule of 4 hours each. Day one is E9 and day two is C6. The cost is $50/hour. The minimum number of hours you can schedule is 4 hours.

Now, since you may not have the time or the money to go one-on-one, you can have Doug review your technique and he will give you plenty to work on for ONLY $60!

I think it is a great deal to have one of the very best reviewing my techique, etc.

At this point, only two of us have expressed an interest.

So, if more of you do not show up, then I guess I will simply get more personal advice from Doug! It is a tough life, but I guess I will have to deal with it!

BTW, Doug has moved and his new phone number is: 615-459-6711.

Also, Stoney's show is one of the very best. You will hear a lot of great players in a day and a half. I have been to 4 of them and have enjoyed every one.

Last year, I was in tears when Johnny Cox changed the fretboard on Weldon Myrick. It was off scale and Weldon was slightly out of tune on the E9. Man, that was hilarious!

The Knoxville show's backup band is one of the very best.

Finally, Stoney is being kind enough to offer an open stage on Thursday night again for the Amateurs to play. Since you need to be there Thursday night for the Friday morning seminar start and you will have your guitar with you, you might as well play Thursday night. It costs nothing!!!

Frank

It was easy Stoney. You are a great guy and the best MC. It was great seeing you fill in as MC at Carl Dixon's Atlanta Show those two years it ran. I am sure he appreciated it.

If I recall correctly, Stoney was Donna Hammitt's first steel guitar instructor. Look where she is now!

All of those who can attend this great show, should do so. It is simply the BEST two-day steel guitar show on the planet! Really!

Just received an E-mail from Donna Hammitt and it looks like she will be able to do the show this year, and a good possibility that she might be able to bring the Po' Folks Band with her. Let's hope
