I have the Audacity to ask the following question:
How do I slide just a piece of a track forward or back in time, without sliding the entire track? In the studio, I've seen my engineer highlight the part of the wave affected and click something to clip both ends of it, so it could be slid slightly forward or back (oops; am I revealing secrets of the trade?) But in Audacity, I don't see how to clip before and after the wave segment so I can move just that small piece. When I try to slide anything, it moves the entire track from start to end. The only thing I can see is to actually cut it out and put it on a separate track and slide it on that track (where it will be considered the entire track). But that seems like the hard way to do the job.
Anyone know the simple solution?
Thanks,

Jim, I don't think Audacity will do that. You need a full blown multi-track recording program such as Cakewalk, Pro Tools, Cubase, etc. I think my Cubase LE will do that. I have Cakewalk Music Creator 4 and it will do that.
Goldwave will not do that either.
Behringer has (or had) a free recording program, "Kristal" and it MAY do that. www.behringer.com |

Jim,
Highlight the part you want, and press 'duplicate'.
This will put that part on another track, which makes it totally independent of the original, and can be moved back or forward.
The original segment can now be 'silenced' or deleted, whatever.
There is a very good FAQ section on the Audacity web site that will answer most queries |

Jack-Tilley told me about Krystal and I downloaded it. It has a mixer on it and I am sure can do what Jim wants. I made a couple of recordings on it. I think it is very good, if I could take the time to learn all the features. I also have Audicity, but I like Krystal Better, except I couldnt play the song on Windows Meda player. Audacity does that too. Wrong extension.
Do you know how I can get around that? Thanks, again...al. _________________ Michigan (MSGC)Christmas Dinner and Jam on my 80th Birthday.

Hi Richard- Thanks for your respone.
I exported as Wave with Audacity and Still wouldn't play on Windows Media Player as most of my songs do.
It will not play if I recorded with Krystal either. but it will play IN Krystal, but not WMP. I have other recording progams that will play in WMP. Windows says it don't recognize the extensions. I don't see why they dont standardize these programs.Thanks.....al.. _________________ Michigan (MSGC)Christmas Dinner and Jam on my 80th Birthday.

That's very wierd, Al. If you want, record a short wav file with Audacity and email it to me. I'll tell you if I can play it on my WMP.
