What is the easiest/best/most affordable way to convert my BIAB .WAV files into .MP3 files?

Just learning all of this and figured out .WAV files are to large.

Gary,I've not tried it yet,but I think you can do it right in BIAB..Maybe when you render.Go to help in BIAB.I'm sure you'll find an answer.
Glad to hear that you've bought BIAB.Did you get the Mega Pack?Real Drums? Extra sets?.
I also believe that you need wav.files to burn to CD.Maybe not.
I do wav.files and when I get done ,I delete it from my HD.

I purchased BIAB 2007 MegaPak. It came with 3 CD's of real drum recordings. Yes, .WAV files are for CD's but are huge. When sending tunes to friends via email, it would be great to have much smaller files.

I may ask the members over at the pgmusic BIAB

forum.

Generally a convert program is used.

I use Musicmatch which is a purchased package, I think it's around $20..it is feature loaded for recording/ converting /ripping CD's etc...

I believe there may be some FREE shareware programs which will do the conversion.

try www.cnet.com

I use the "Windows Audio Converter" which was a free download. It will convert a single file or a whole directory of files with just a few clicks. It will convert .wav files to either .wma (all formats and bitrates) or .mp3 (you choose the bit rate), your choice. The Windows Media encoder is a bit more complex but also free and does the same thing.

CDEX is a freeware CD ripper/encoder that is great for this purpose. You can download it at http://CDEXOS.SourceForge.net

I've used Cdex for a couple of years, it works well and is easy to use.

Earnest-I thought I would like Audacity as many do. But I recorded in Audacity and it wouldn play in Windows Media Player which I like.
It saves songs with different extensions that other programs do not recognize. So I am not using it, even though it seems like a nice program and free. Maybe some one can give some tips on that ...al.SmileSmile

Al, you have to specify what type file to save. When you go to "file" then goto "save as" and tell Audacity what type you want. if you want to do an mp3, you have to first download the "lame" program then tell Audacity to find it the first time it uses the encoder. JP

Jim-Thanks for the tips. but, do you mean I have to download a "Lame " program in order to "Save as"? that is not the usual procedure with other recording programs, that I know of....al.Smile

Al, I looked again at Audacity, to save as MP3, goto "file", then export as MP3. Lame is the name of the program Audacity uses to convert waves to mp3's. You have to download it, here:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3

Hope this helps. JP

Gary, see if your computer has a program called Creative Wave Studio. It comes with all sound cards by Creative ( the people that make Sound Blaster & Audigy cards). Wave Studio will convert to and from wave/mp3 and you can edit these files as well with this program.

Some recently manufactured CD players will play MP3 files. A great many MP3 files can be directly placed on a CD only as files, that is, many more than WAV files. I have a CD player that plays MP3 files and so when I put a CD with MP3 files, it plays nearly all day. I put my music collection into MP3 files (almost all C&W) and now I have nearly 3000 songs in MP3.

Tahnks, Jim. I did download that "Lame Program" quite awhile ago,but did a song then tried to call up lame to do its work and nothing happened...Oh well, I am using something other than Audacity, the songs I recorded in Audacity, hae some weird extension and I cant play them in Windows Media player or anything. Weird, so all those songs were copyied from tapes , I dont even know the names of them, and would have to dig out my tapes, and do the whole thing over. I am not planning on doing that. thanks anyway, I appreciate your help...al.SmileSmile

Gary your latest version has a wave conversion program in it. Its called DXi..wave render system. You've got to install it though from the BB CDs that came with it. I'm no expert on it but Big Jim is and can lead you through it. I use it and it works well.
