Roy Lanham said he was in a band with a blind steel guitarist named Billy Galloway:
Quote:
When the Whippoorwills disbanded in October 1941, Lanham went to Atlanta and joined the Shades Of Blue, a trio built around a female pianist and blind steel guitarist Billy Galloway. "He played like George Barnes on a single-neck steel," marvels Roy. "When I took a chorus, he would play a bass line. We played all jazz."

Anyone ever hear of him?

I remember a thread about him on the old forum several years ago. Try searching the archive, Mike.

Nah, nothing that I could find, unless they spelled his last name wrong.

I was reading about Roy Lanham to find about his Jazzmaster setup. I stumbled upon his quote about Billy Galloway. I found the following recordings with the Rice Brothers Gang, which has very hot horn like steel playing especially for 1940! Very good harmonica too by one Warren Sykes.

Thanks for the links, Brett. He was fantastic! This was after Dunn but before Murph.

Steve Geis posts that he took lessons from Billy Galloway.
