I arranged this little instrumental to follow up on the technique to acquire yet another nice Country Pedal Sound for the Six String Lap Steel Guitar.
This one is done on the E6th. tuning with the high G# and looks like this:Low to high
E--G#--B--C#--E--G#.
I chose the key of G# for the song because it offered the open string on the top which plays an important part here and puts the home base at Fret 4.
On C6th tuning Fret 4 is the Key of E and also offers the availability of the top open string ie: C--E--G--A--C--E.
So this instrumental can be played either in E6th or C6th.
Andy Sandoval has provided the link to my MP3. No excuses, it's tough sleddin' folks but with work and time this technique can be developed into a real nice Country sounding presentation.
As usual I am offering for a limited time
the Tablature, and on line dialogue to help with problems and/or answer questions. It will be ready soon and I hope to have slow down note for note MP3's in two parts of the whole song.

I've had it tuned every which way Ed and
what it lacks in design finesse it makes up for in "punch and projection". It's loud and it cuts. I call it the Pit Bull.

Hi Mike,
I offer this song in the format of an on-line mini work shop.
In addition to the Tablature and the MP3 I
provide a paper on the required technique to make the song sound right. There will be
two MP3's, first part, second part slowed
down to assist in following the Tablature and
I will assist in answering questions or addressing problems via email.
This instruction is $15.00 for those interested.
I find this approach gives me a new interest in using the C6th/E6th tuning.. and with just six strings which is great for Country Lap Steelers and Dobro musicians. Although the Resonator pictured in this thread sports 8 strings I ony use one down to six to play the music on the clip.
I did not mean to be long winded and hope I have answered your question.

Roy

Hey Roy,
Do you by any chance have a collection of songs on tape or CD that are played on this little honey of a steel guitar ? I would love to hear more ! Especially some Western Swing in an open tuning !

Ed,
My wife Bernice has a CD or tape that she sells around on my behalf which features the National Dynamic on 10 selections. The rest of the music,, an additional 10 songs are my classical guitar fingerings.
The Lap steel tunes include Drowsy Waters,
Maria Elena, Spanish Eyes, La Paloma, Pu Uana Hulu, Whispering Hope, Hawaiian Wedding Song etc.
Right now I just have a Cassette Tape on hand and the master CD. I am going to burn some when time permits. Lately, I'm going
at this every day but it 's not going to last much longer,,,because I don't like being this busy.
If you want this Cassette I will send it to you $15.00 includes postage. It's called the Valley Guitars of Roy Thomson.

Thanks Ed,
Roy
