Barry, if you have to ask that question about Joni Mitchell you haven't been paying attention. I'd venture to say that she knows more about the acoustic guitar and the theory of open tunings than almost anyone, and can play the socks off just about anyone.

Keith, agreed. I've been a big Joni fan for years & years and she's a wonderful musician/songwriter/singer, but strumming her own rhythm on oddly tuned guitar(s) doesn't necessarily put her in the same league as Beck, Van Halen, Atkins, et. al. IMHO ...

Rolling Stone???

Duh!? Does anyone over 25 actually really read this mag, let alone, give much credence to it?

I always sort of considered it the Enquirer of the music world. Image
[This message was edited by Donny Hinson on 10 November 2006 at 02:01 PM.]

As I wrote in an earlier post, it ain't what it used to be. No question about that. I probably buy about 3 issues a year, at an airport newsstand waiting for a flight.

Enquirer of the music world? That's a pretty low blow, and would indicate to me-and I have no idea of your age-but if you considered it to be that going back say, 20 or more years ago-then you obviously weren't ever reading it.

I don't know why I feel compelled to defend the magazine-it wasn't like I ever wrote for it or anything like that-and I don't have the thing in front of me like I did a few weeks back-but I recall Joan Jett might have made it because she was a pretty good rock rhythm player-and more importantly because of her influence-being a girl-and inspiring others of the female persuasion to take up rock guitar. Obviously in a one-on-one Mike Campbell could have smoked her. There could be a thread on 100 great ROCK guitarists that DIDN'T make the list, and we could probably fill it up pretty quickly.

I think it's the same reason they put Robert Randolph in there-getting pedal steel out to the masses in a rock context.

Of course they knew it would cause disagreement-I supplied the quote stating just that from the begining of the article earlier in the thread.
