What happened to this prospect?

Last I heard from Rick Aiello, cost was to be around 50.00 (for a shorter bar)

Is this not an alloy, turned down on a lathe?
Zirconium oxide is an extremely hard ceramic material with excellent lubricity ...

It is commonly used as the articulating surface in total hip replacement surgery, as well as many other industrial and medical uses.

After firing ... it is so hard in fact, that only minimal machining can be done ...

Most of the shaping, etc ... must be done prior to firing.

Hence the expense ...
Last I heard from Rick Aiello, cost was to be around 50.00 (for a shorter bar)
That price was for a minimum of 100 units @ 2.75" x 0.75" (JB size) ... with a thumb indent.

I spent quite a bit of time with the engineers at Superior Ceramics ... describing what these were and how they are used.

I was pretty excited about the quote too ... till I ran the cost by the Mrs. ...

Familiar with the pidgin term ... "Stink Eye" ... Image

Anyway ... I want one, if y'all make smaller bars down the road.

Mass is a non-issue for me, personally ...

I spend the majority of my playin' time using a 70 gram "flat" Hawaiian bar from the 1930's.

I asked for a pair before, but in 0.875" diameter. I do not care for one in 0.938" but please include me if you intend to make 0.875s.

If there were a run of smaller bars, in the range of 2 3/4" to 3" in length, and 3/4" or 7/8" in diameter, I'd be interested.

15/16ths x 3&3/8th's but I will not commit to something without knowing the price. I sold my 7/8's Zirc to Jerry Roller because the 15/16's BJS felt better to me, if it would have been 15/16th's I would not have sold it. I like both bars equally.

They are indeed a really great bar. I'm still watching for the price of the 15/16th's x 3 & 3/8th's. I will buy one if the the price is right.

So am I George, so am I. Step #1 is material qualifications...last week Leo said 3 to 4 weeks for that...you know what happens to schedules!

My role in this has no $ involved...I am just bringing the customer to the maker, and translating PSG jargon to manufacturing info.
[This message was edited by ed packard on 13 November 2006 at 09:14 AM.]

Just a post to let all interested know that things seem to be proceeding at the usual snails pace.

Those that E mailed me direct have had their E mail forwarded to Leo.

Those that have posted here have had their names, bar dimensions, E mail address, etc. put on a spreadsheet and sent to Leo.

This "thing" has started, now with luck, I can get out of the loop and get back to things like the BEAST, the PST hardware mods, and the latest = SONIC PALETTE.

15/16 x 3 1/2 would work for me on a 12 string, but I could get by with a 3 3/8 depending on price ...Jim
