NICE,NICE,What the hell do you mean, nice?? That's got to be one the most beautiful guitars any of you have ever see. JUST KIDDIN GUYS. Thanks for the remarks.

Mike wants to know. "Why buy another one"? Well, it's like this. I had some money saved at the time from some other items that I had sold. I saw the most beautiful color combination I had ever seen before on a guitar. I told myself I needed another guitar and actually made myself believe it. Before you know it, I had put a deposit on the guitar of my dreams.

And that's the name of that tune. I think it is a great investment.

Wait till you seeum side by side. It'll blow you away.

Seriously, I'm gonna leave one in the band trailer and keep one in my music room. I have a well insulated case that I can keep the guitar in and it will never have to be broken down. Bob Dell made me a case a # of years back so I can just set the guitar in it put the top on it and roll it in the trailer. We gig near every week and I hate to move and pack guitars more than almost anything. This way I can leave it in the trailer and be ready for next weeks show.

Thanks guys

I've got to tell you guys Bruce builds a heck of a guitar I've had a couple and they seem to be indestuctable, hardly have to tune the nylon tuners just a well though out guitar. Though in tone not quite an Emmons
but pertty close but still a great guitar.

There's that "T" word again. I had a L.L. II and I would put the Zum against it any day. Tone for tone. It's not a push pull, I'll give you that. Emmons is still a very high quality guitar.

Cccccome on ZZzzzumsters, I'm getting clobbered by these Emmons guys. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jeff.

I'll try to help call them off if I can with my limited influence being a "new guy"..

I need to know two things.

Quid Pro Quo.

Teat for tat:

1. What is Bud Charleton's Copedant?

2. What is your worst memory of childhood?

I'll be back.

I'm off to get some Chianti.

I'm having an old friend for dinner...

Hey, you Zum guys,I've got a pretty one too. It's a U-12,Royal Blue with a grey lightning bolt on the front. People tell me I've got the best sound I've ever had, and I've got a great sounding EMCI that I used before. Nuff said, Ron

Jeff,if you wanted an Emmons you could easily bought one.You went with the Zum and that is a great choice.Emmons people just preffer Emmons tone but I don`t see anything wrong with the Zum.There are people on this forum who sold their Emmons guitars because they didn`t like them.I love push-pull Emmons but I also love Sho~Bud ,maybe even more than Emmons.I just bought a very nice Sho~Bud Professional from one forum member and it is as awesome sounding guitar.Emmons is great sounding guitar but mechanics on the push-pull are nitemare and that is the part I don`t like ,but since I`am not on the road anymore I can afford to have a p/p and if something goes wrong I can always take it to the SGN or Mike Cass and have it fixed. If I was on the road and have to chose between Emmons p/p and Zum I would much rather go with the Zum for sure.I have love-hate relationship with the p/p ,love the tone but hate its mechanics.

p.s.
I tried few brand new Emmons LL II`s and I wouldn`t play them if I could get them for free.

You are so right. I went out Fri night and listened to the great Bill Dearmore playing an old single Sho Bud I told Bill that he had the best tone that night that I'd ever heard him have. He has an E p/p too and of course he always sounds great on anything he plays. He has a new Zum that is very similar to my D 10 that is posted here on this topic and of course he Loves it also.

There are many good guitars out there no doubt. I just happen to perfer the Zum and I'm in good company with the many pros that also play Bruces guitar. Of course there are many pros playing Emmons also. I even know of one or two that play Carters. The Carter has very smooth pedal and lever action but are just a little light for me. No doubt they are a very good guitar. Bud Carter wouldn't build anything less.

Thaks

Jeff;

This is a very interesting thread...I'm sure that your Zum is going to be gorgeous! Congratulations on your new guitar and your progress in playing this great instrument.

I would like to hook up my 2002 Emmons LL II...you know, side-by-side...with your new Zum, just to see how they compare. My Emmons is just the old ugly gloss black mica...8/5...but, no lightning bolts.

We're close by here in Belton and I would love to do that. Then, you make the call on the "T". Is it the "Z" or the "E"?

What do you say? Maybe get Palousek, Dearmore and/or Stallings to come by. I would really like to get together.

Best regards,

Bud

Hey Bud
We can get them all together one day and have a great time. You guys are way out in front of me but it would be great for everyone to get together.

The "Z" has the "T" believe me.

Thanx Jeff
i don't have the budget that would permit me to buy a new one. So eventually, when i'm ready, i'll get a used one.
i"ve never tried a Zum, but i'm convinced from all i've read and seen here, that they are definitely one of the best steels around.
and they sure do look good

There are many quality steels out there and Zum is one of the finest. IMHO. There are not many used Zums out there and when they come up for sale they usually go pretty quick. Do you desire a D-10 - 12 or Sd-10-12??? Just curious.

I guess this just about Zums this topic up. Thanks for the many pictures e-mailed to me of some beautiful Zum Guitars. Bruce sure should be proud of his achievments in the steel guitar industry.

Thanks again for all the fun and the pictures. As soon as I get me new Zum on the 27th, and get my computer fixed, I'll sure post a picture of it.

Thanks

Last week I became a ZUMSTEEL owner. From the ser#, I assume it's a 1984 model. The one owner had played it very little and it had not left his music room except to move from North to South Alabama. The guitar was an 8 pedal, 4 knee lever setup with plain fret boards. I called Bruce and he's sending a vertical knee lever kit and a couple of colored fret boards. I was passing the fret I needed to be at in the "chicken picking mode". I suppose using the colored fret boards on my Sho-Buds all these years gave me a comfort level.

I'm very impressed with the ZUMSTEEL. It has the original ZUM single coils pickups that were rewound by Jerry Wallace. They seem just a tad hotter than the Jerry Wallace True Tone single coils I have in My PRO-III Sho-Bud. One main factor I've noticed is that the Sho-Bud front legs go out at more of an angle than the ZUM. This puts the pedals farther away from you on the Sho-BUD at a seated position. This will also position the foot differently on the volume pedal and could be the reason the pickups seem hotter. No big deal however. Will I get rid of my Sho-Buds? No, I'm well aware of the fact that I can sound good or totaly suck on either brand of guitar. It all depends on how my 68 1/2 year old arthritic fingers are doing at the time. Sadly, that's the only thing Buddy Emmons and I have in common.

The ZUMSTEEL is a teriffic guitar and I can understand why their owners love and swear by them. I can't wait to try mine out on the bandstand.
