Buddy's solo on that clip of Drivin' Nails is one of my favorite psg solos, it's rock and roll! In the middle of Buddy's solo Ernest says "I think Shot Jackson's looking for you", Buddy gets that big ol' grin.Tom Quinn wrote:This might be what you are talking about:

I'm only a beginner maybe an intermediate steel player of 3 years, but I've played lead guitar for almost 60 years. I respect everyone's views regarding interpretation and creativity. Having said that, though, if I'm playing Hello Mary Lou or Working Man Blues, there's no way I could do a better solo than James Burton did, so I'm really happy when someone tells me, "That sounds just like the record." My ideas of music may be different than some, but I believe my job on stage is to make the singer sound as good as he or she can. It's not about me, my creativity or how good I am. Sometimes players who believe their solos were thrillingly awesome, could have been better served had they done their best to copy an original recording. As a listener, I appreciate the effort put forth, when someone plays what I've heard on the radio, rather than something they consider "better" or at least their own interpretation of a song. Perhaps, individual perspectives are as different as we are as human beings. Some prefer creativity and individual interpretation and others prefer flawless reproduction of original music. I suspect those who listen are equally different in what they prefer.
