Hello Matthieu, when I check for available updates, the message I get says that my version is up to date although it's 2.76a1c. Is there a special procedure to download the new beta? Merci beaucoup.

Matthieu Leschemelle wrote:It is exactly what I was writting: in your configuration, the A shortkey causes the reserved 0 pedal to be applied (so no effect at all). To get the first pedal, you have to type B.

The Apply button only changes the label of the effect. It doesn't apply the effect to the selected note. It is useful for instruments that don't have the copedent dialog. For a PSG, you should use the copedent dialog. So I will hide the Apply button and the edit field if the instrument is a PSG.

The label can be of 4 characters. I'll change the help file.

To enable two simultaneous pedal/lever presses on the same note on the same string would be almost impossible. How can it work BTW?
OK, I understand the problem of pedal 0. So let's forget about that and put pedal A at far left to match the shortkeys. Now, whichever dialog box is used to enter pedals/levers in the tab, this box should remain open while you write the tab.

But shortkeys are probably more convenient, and the most universal identifiers after A B C would be D = lever that lowers D# to D; E = lever that lowers E's to D#; F = lever that raises E's to F; G = lever that raises F# to G; X = lever that lowers B to Bb. Then, allowing for halfstops, DD = lever that lowers D# to C# (= the fully engaged physical lever D); GG = lever that raises F# to G# (= the fully engaged physical lever G). So, these identifiers should be the shortcuts and also appear in the tab, which makes names such as RLR fairly meaningless and unnecessary, also considering that the placement of the levers is irrelevant to the tab. Perhaps DD and GG - double characters - could be written in a smaller font size...? Sometimes, it gets tight when fast notes are used.

Regarding the 4 characters, when I selected them in the pitch change dialog and pressed Apply, the names appeared doubled or trippled in the box and also appeared like that in the tab. 3-character names don't have this problem, but in regard to the paragraph above, this becomes irrelevant.

Changing a note with two pedals simultaneously is an option that only all-pull guitars offer, but this system is the most ubiquitous. The changes of both pedals/levers are simply added, so, e.g. if pedal B is +1 on string 6 (G#) and lever GG is -2, the resulting note is -1 (G). I think the only way that doesn't require a programming effort would be to assign this 'double change' an additional pedal in the copedent with a new identifier - in this case, BG - which should also appear in the tab.

Hallo Hans,

I notice the bug in the pitch change dialog. I'll fix it. Note the Copedent dialog doesn't present this problem.

The pitch change dialog will remain open as a not modal dialog. Thus you will be able to apply the effect to any note in the tab.

Regarding the shortkeys, I think I've to add the ability to configure them and an option to display the initial letter instead of the name of the pedal/lever.

For the combined pedal+lever effect, the simplest would be actually to define a new effect in the Copedent dialog.

Best.

Hi,

I just uploaded a new update.

The tab conversion routines have been improved.

The shortkeys can now be edited.

From the basic Copendent dialog

Image

Click the "Name" cell. The shortkeys are now displayed and can be edited:

By the way the Pitch Change dialog has been improved:

It remains opens when you navigate the tablature.

The "Shortkeys" option allows to display the shortkey instead of the pedal/lever name.

Hope you will like it.

Thanks so much Matthieu
This is so helpful and may spur a lot more steel players to get TablEdit.
A great way to communicate and share.

Hi,

I'm very glad you like the new changes.

I'd love some of you guys use the new features to tab a nice piece for PSG. This piece should be free of copyright in order it could be published as the tablature of the month:

Best.

Just wanted to give this thread a bump.

After using TablEdit for a few weeks I'm finding it a very valuable tool. Since I like to experiment with different copedents, I've been able to easily try out different design ideas and make some great tab chord charts. One of my favorite features is the ability to toggle between fret #'s and note names with the touch of a button.

It's also great to load my console steel C6 tuning in and use the fret#/note name feature to easily see interval relationships.

TablEdit is a great learning tool...Thanks again Matthieu :)
