I keep a small tube of tooth paste in my pack seat. Put a small dab on thumb and pick fingers, then I smear a small amount on my bar hand ---thumb and first finger.
Sometimes you can find small samples at your pharmacy if not a tube might cost you less than a dollar. I usually make a tube last at a couple of months or more.
