Joe: My reasoning is, the hour could be used for something much better. Perhaps 30 minutes of Ernest Tubb, and 30 minutes of Flatt and Scruggs. That would be better for me, but perhaps not yourself. It's only a suggestion. When it comes on, I change channels, and then go back for the Cumberland Highlanders show that follows. I do like that show.

Not a huge fan of Midwest Country, but it is what it is. Locally produced on semi-pro equipment. The production is akin to a local cable public access program from the early ’80s. It can’t fairly be compared to the slick productions coming from professional sound stages in places like Nashville or Austin. Or even St. Paul. Sandstone is a historic old railroad town of about 3,000 located between the Twin Cities and Duluth. It’s lifeblood is a Federal Minimum Security Prison.

I disagree with the argument that Midwest Country is undeserving of broadcast on a national cable channel. It is live music, whether it suits one’s tastes and sensibilities or not. I would much prefer the choice of watching Midwest Country (or turning it off), than more livestock futures, another pickup-truck or tractor parade, farm reports, a school bus demolition derby, or infomercial upon infomercial.

Even with the amateurish production, there are often good pickers featured on Midwest Country. Check out John Ely, Dan Lund and Joe Savage.

With all the crap that is sucking up bandwidth out there, why again are we slamming one of the few live shows in the Country? Maybe Bill would like an hour of hip hop or rap. Just turn the channel. if we ever lose this program I fear for what will replace it. :? Just look at the audience and the people playing, they like most of us probably won't be here in ten years. Watch Hee Haw, almost all those people are gone. Support these folks don't tear down "Old Country".
Die with Memories. Not Dreams.
Good Stuff like Zum S-12, Wolfe Resoport
MSA SS-12, Telonics Combo.

Because it's borderline mediocrity only serves to reinforce the negative stereotypes people harbor about country music.
if we ever lose this program I fear for what will replace it.
Apparently it hasn't ever occurred to you that something better might replace it..
My opinions only.

My wife and I have the same feeling about the show and that is, there are some good moments and there are mostly mediocre moments. But, these performers are trying to do their best at whatever level they're on. After all, they're carrying on a tradition of country music to the best of their ability. And as she says, " They're on TV and we're not ".
So, if you don't like the show, don't turn it on. Nobody is forced to watch anything, as far as I know.
BTW- Sometimes I like to watch Mollie B's Polka Party because it reminds me of my childhood, when my neighbor used to listen to the Sunday morning Polka radio station.
My wife hates it and leaves the room and watches her crime shows on the other TV. To each their own. That's what choices are for.

Niels: Can't you read? I said replace it with 30 minutes of Ernest Tubb, and 30 minutes of Flatt and Scruggs. NOT Hip-Hop, or Rap. Now, wouldn't that be better than one hour of, in my opinion, misery?
