I'll hijack my own thread; I saw a promo for Wednesday's CMA award show where they were smashing a guitar onstage...not the sort of activity most would like associated with a "country" awards show. So how much watching is needed (5 minutes?) to form an educated opinion? I'm sure there will be a thread (or six) lamenting the direction the genre has taken..
And to stay (sort of) on topic, rest assured no TruCountry performer will be mentioned or seen Wed night.

Hey Greg -

Don't forget: Garth Brooks (remember him?) used to smash a few guitars now and then on stage. But my question is: when will David Allan Coe show up on Midwest Country?

I know it's hard not seeing and hearing your favorite artist on radio and TV anymore.
I certainly don't hear the newer artist dissing the traditional artist like you diss the newer ones on this steel forum. It boils down to having respect for each other.

Now who's the one who started with the crap thing? You really don't know me,But,I'm not putting any of these new artist down.I'm just telling it like it is,the truth. Some people just don't like the truth.Us old crap is what gave these new young Artist the stage to play on.Nashville is not who made Country Music what it is.It's Musicians and Songwriters who got used by the system. So,please shine your shoes for awhile and see how the old looks new. ;-) Leo J.Eiffert,Jr.& his CRAWFISH BAND with some PIGEONS

Of course, someone always comes first. Nashiville is the home of country music in my life.
I respect the old along with the new. It has changed and you can call it what you want, it doesn't make it right!

I live today and I cherish every minute I'm alive & I love music!

I'm just telling it like it is,the truth.
Sorry to cap on ya Leo, but that is YOUR TRUTH and not necessarily THE TRUTH

Actually when you start your incessant raving and criticizing of modern country (most of which I don't really care for either) you are attacking the songwriters, studio musicians who played it, road players who make their living playing it and the artist who sings it. Pretty good reason I avoid any topic that was started by you.
Carter D10 8p/7k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup, Regal RD40 Dobro (D tuning), Recording King Professional Dobro (G tuning), NV400, NV112, Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open G slide and regular G tuning guitar) .

Playing for 55 years and still counting.

" My Shoes Keep Walking Back To You " and all of them wonderful people like you Richard Sinkler & Theresa Galbraith. Nashville is not the birth of Country Music ! And the Mother Church of Country music is not the same Old,New are what ever you want to call it today. It's a business. These Artist today are not Artist, they are a business in flesh. That's why it's called the Music Industry. I'm in the Music Business and I paid my dues for the Industry. As a Musicians first.I've played ever kind of music style you want to call it. Somebody please get the game right in what is what & who is who and face the truth. To much kiss ass in hope's of getting somewhere.Remember the one with the most money controls the table. It's to bad we can't talk about all the crap with common sense and not make a fight over the word. But,who put the word out? Not I,I just added to it to help out what was being said.I'll be in Nashville soon.If you want to kill me personally with words,Or just, E-Mail me at - leo@jtjsales.com _ and I'll be proud to meet you. ;-) Leo J.Eiffert,Jr & his CRAWFISH BAND withsome PIGEONS 8)

Today's show kicked off strong with Jody Nix, and Junior Knight's steel work was up front and good stuff.
Second airing tonight at 4:30am Eastern.

Tru Country was not very True Country last night. It was a few TX Swing songs and a lot of videos of Myron Floren playing the accordian. A wealth of talent, but certainly not country to my ears. (We'll I supposed it was as much country and the current Nashville music from the awards shows.)I hope this show is not an indication of what's to come. :(

Well, I have just found the answer to my own question, when are the Americana Awards on TV? The awards show airs Nov. 19 on PBS – 11 p.m., Channel 6 (KVIE) – as part of "Austin City Limits."
Now it may have been on previous to this and I missed it, I don't know, but it airs on the above date in California …. Those interested, check your local listings to make sure.

I agree, where did a Myron Floren tribute come from? Unless TruCountry was that desperate for another sponsor?
With the two-day lineup (when taped) of artists they have to work with, there had to be something more suitable.
But Jody's cover of Faron Young's "Twin Fiddles Turn Me On" was a good `un.

I haven't seen the show yet, but the Myron Floren thing sounds right out of left field. Like Rick, I hope it's not a sign of things to come.

Count me as one who likes the "old crap". No, make that loves the "old crap". Steel, fiddle and clean Tele sounds musical to me, whereas "modern country" is dominated by six string guitar that sounds like it's being played through a blown speaker by a guy on meth. Every so often you'll hear a couple measures of steel that sounds like it's coming from the bottom of a well. Not to mention the ridiculous lyrics. It would be nice to hear some new material done in the style of the "old crap". There are a few artists doing that, although not very many. Thankfully, we have several here in Texas.

The "modern country" guys and gals won't be getting any of my money. I doubt they'll lose much sleep over it, but neither will I. To those who do like it, I say go for it and enjoy yourself. There's certainly no shortage of it out there. I plan to stay with the "old crap" until they throw dirt over me, and hope I hear lots more "old crap" on Season 3 of TruCountry. I realize I'm part of a tiny minority on my musical preference, but that's just fine with me. I never was one to follow the crowd.

Don't (totally) trust the RFD guide!
Tonight kicked off with a Bobby Flores medley "Curtain In The Window/One More Time", followed by Bode Barker doing "Mary Goes Round". Then onto the the Miss Leslie and Jake Penrod segments.
Jim Loesberg did great on steel for all the artists except Miss Leslie, who of course had Ricky Davis doing his fine work for her tunes.

Still time to DVR the early morning (3:30am?) show.

Before you bash Texas go back and check the post and where the people are from. I saw NY, CA, OK, And others making the comments about Tejas. The reason they are saying it is , Well it must be TRUE. There are acts showing up and playing in Austin every day, but first you would have to go there and walk down the street and listen, there not juke boxes. The clubs here have 1-6 piece groups playing on the weekends and some during the week. Country, Real Country, Rock Blues oh yea Texas Blue ever hear of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Texas clubs. I don't think anyone is taking away from your state, your music or anyone elses, but Texas is a big state and any Big City with a club in it will have country music coming out of it: Dallas, Austin, Fort Worth San Antonio, Houston, Galveston, Oh there were country songs written about them to from people here in Texas.
ONCE again I say it was people out side of Texas that were making most of the statements.

Went to the broken soke a few mounths ago saw Neil Flantz playing.

Lee. I was not BASHING Texas or the music from there. I was bashing the bashing of any music not from there. Reread my comments. Maybe we're reading a different thread? :)
And no, I've never heard of SRV. Ever been to Nashville and walked Broadway before the sun goes down? There IS some real Country music left there my friend. Unless of course you don't consider Mike Sweeney and some of the other monster pickers there to be Country? If only they were from Texas.

Btw, sounds to me like the polka tribute was a big hit.....

Great show tonight, kicked off with Bobby Flores doing "Pride", with Jim Loesberg doing some fine steel work from start to finish.

I'll resurrect this thread, due to the Dec 30 show (5:30pm Central)featuring Jake Hooker and his dad, Tommy. Count on this episode to be 100% traditional country, with lots of Jim Loesberg steel.
