I was reading a thread similar to this one a few years back, and someone posted a brilliant reply to the topic: "This is a steel guitar forum, not a country music forum."

Every time I see a thread like this I think of that reply. :)
Sho-Bud Pro III + Marshall JMP 2204 half stack = good grind!

It was our leader Leslie. Here's the quote, in part, cut from a previous thread.

Not the Rock Pop forum either

Post by Bill Howard »

The post saying this isn't "A Country Music Forum " is correct, NEITHER is it a POP ROCK JAZZ forum either, Pop being basically what Trashville is putting out. I have NEVER EVER put others down for playing what they want on their instrument.
If you want to play Ozzy Osbourne on yours have at it.
Just because some of you kiddies who discovered the steel and learned a couple licks on one or heard Stairway to Heaven played on one doesn't mean the ones of us who like to hear Jack Greene are going to uit playing it because you came along....We're not.. Steel players USED to get along pretty well now it seems a lot of the Newbies only want to Argue about something... who makes the best Amp or best Steel,What delay or reverb to use,the only correct answer is the one that you like best,WHat should you play....the one you like best,Best AMP?....the one.......Politics are not allowed on here for a reason some other subjects have the same effect with others. A quick look in Pedal steel or Steel players sections will find a plethera of subjects with someone waiting to trounce on someone about their opinion...
The Convention USED to be full of helpful want to help others type of guys I quit going after it became so commercial that it is ONLY about the DOLLAR. It is a Shame that is all its about.
So go ahead Attack my opinion I sort of expect it:)

Bill, maybe I misinterpreted your original post, but I felt that was exactly what your were doing. It seemed that you were saying that the existence of people like Robert Randolph, Susan Alcorn, and myself, and the use of the steel by such rock singers as Robert Plant and Chrissie Hynde, somehow was a threat to traditional country style steel playing.

I repeat: There has to be room for everybody, traditionalists and iconoclasts. One does not negate or invalidate the other.
