I gotta agree that it'd be great if Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb, Del Reeves and Porter Wagonner were still on the Opry, and Bill Monroe and Minnie Pearl too. They were all regulars when I first moved to town in the early 80's and it was great to see (and be a part of).

But somehow I don't think it's Pete Fisher's fault, or the "New York suits", that they're not still on the Opry today.

Loretta Lynn, Del McCoury, Connie Smith, Gene Watson, Marty Stuart, Jimmy Dickens, Patty Loveless, Ricky Skaggs, Dolly Parton, Bill Anderson, Emmylou Harris, Jack Greene, Allison Krauss, Jimmy C. Newman, The Timejumpers, Ralph Stanley and Charlie Pride (to mention a "few") are either members or have appeared recently.
the Opry has become a total disgrace for those of us who live nearby it, and work in the music industry.
Maybe for some... but with all due respect please don't assume you speak for all of us. There's a lot of us who might not agree with some of the changes, and certainly don't like every "new country" act that appears but are still really proud to be a part of it.

I happen to think the staff steel player is pretty good too!

I'd watch Lisa Simpson if she played the Opry. Only if she had Bleedin' Gums Murphy in her band though.

FWIW Dale Watson's on the Opry next week...

Let's see, he's not a member, not exactly a huge star or a "legend", not really gonna attract "the kids", he's based in Texas and has always been outspoken about what he doesn't like about Nashville, he's not on a big corporate record label that has promotional clout...

Is it possible that "the powers that be" at the Opry actually like and respect him and his music and just think there's a place for him on the Opry?

No, it couldn't be... 8)

I've known him for close to 20 years and I can say that I'm pretty sure he'll be proud to be there!

Hard to believe George Strait's never been on the GOO? He certainly deserves to be on....

If George has never been on I would have to guess that was his choice, I'm sure they'd love to have him!

We don't know why he hasn't been on.
