And look at Fantasia, if you can find her now. Even though she won, her career isn't that great.
Somebody needs to do their research .....

Um yeah, I knew she was doing broadway. But she is not Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeearly as succesful as Jennifer Hudson whom she beat out - and that is my point.

Now if you compare her to Adam Lambert, who will go on and on in this business, Adam came from the cast of Wicked and now is headed on to bigger and better things. Fantasia on the other hand is back to where Adam started IMO.

I don't think this particular Adam has much interest in starting anything with someone named Eve...and as Seinfeld would say: "not that there's anything wrong with that." :whoa: ;-)

Point taken, however, to say that "her career isn't that great" is a gross misperception, IMO.

Can you say it is as great as Jennifer Hudson's? Other idol winners: Taylor Hicks and Rueben Studdard have recently been dropped by their labels.

Forbes ranks Top 10 Idols in terms of earnings

Posted by Bob Payne

"The mega-show opens the door to Hollywood riches for many alums,"
says Forbes in this article.

To here's the list of top-earners for the period from now back to June
2006:

1. Carrie Underwood, $14 million.
2. Jennifer Hudson, $5 million.
3. Kelly Clarkson, $4.2 million.
4. Jordin Sparks, $3.1 million.
5. Kellie Pickler, $2.3 million.
6. Clay Aiken, $2.2 million.
7. Chris Daughtry, $2 million.
8. David Cook, $2 million.
9. David Archuleta, $1.3 million.
10. Taylor Hicks, $300,000.

As commenters on blogs have pointed out, these are gross earnings.
That means someone like David Archuleta might have actually only taken
home $400,000-$500,000 of that $1.3 million after taxes and various
expenses are accounted for. Still not too shabby.

Five of the seven winners are in the Top 10. And only two of the seven
runners-up.

Is it really the performer that grosses those amounts? Did David Archuleta actually net $400,000 to $500,000? What are the "various expenses", and what contractual obligations are the winners and finalists under? Did the moguls who put them on the show give them the opportunity out of the goodness of their hearts? We've all heard how a record contract with a record company in the pre-IPod days left most musicians/bands owing the record company money for promotion, studio time, tour expenses, etc. I read a Washington Post interview with Mary-Chapin Carpenter after the year in which she had most of her radio hits, and she said she cleared $30,000. Ah, stardom!

What difference does it make, Brian? Who cares if she's not doing as well as Hudson? She's doing "The Color Purple" on Broadway - not too shabby I'd say!

The Idol moguls get at least half of the money right off the top, maybe more. Then the IRS gets another big cut, then state taxes, then SS,etc. If one of these folks made a million, by the time all the smoke clears, I would be surprised if they put 15-25% of it in their pockets.

Taylor Hicks ain't making squat is he!?!?

The voting scandel is very disheartening. You will see some damage control coming from the Idol moguls VERY soon. Just watch for it.

I'm not going to get into "Why" she's doing the color purple (Oprah, cough cough)but you just made my point Barry. Adam Lambert already did broadway (He starred in Wicked) . And now he is talking with Brian May about singing for Queen.

What I am saying is that she won american idol but was not as successful as whom she beat on the show which was Jennifer Hudson. This parallels the current season where Adam clearly has more talent. None-the-less, Adam did not need to win Idol to become successful, as did Fantasia Barrino, Rueben Studdard, and Taylor Hicks.

These contestants who win Idol aren't necessarily guaranteed to go on to be as successful as Carrie Underwood. If you are a Fantasia fan, I can respect that. In my opinion, Jennifer Hudson was unfairly voted off the show and IMO she was clearly a better singer than fantasia and proved it by having a BETTER carreer thus far than fantasia has. But the shock of Jennifer Hudson's early departure is one of the reasons why the Judges implemented the "Judges Save" this year.

No doubt Fantasia has gained some fame from winning and I am sure she would not be on Broadway without having been on Idol, but she will never be as successful as Hudson.

Opinion noted, Brian. I am neither a fan of FB or JH. By your remarks, you are clearly a JH fan which is fine, as long as you do not diminish the success of others in order to make her seem "better." My opinion, of course.

I'm not particularly a fan - I do think JH is a better singer all around, and a voice that stands out from the crowd.

Cheers!
