tone
man, do not ever say that certain playing doesn't sound like Pete, the man had his trademark sound, but could pull out just about anything if he wanted to.
Pete was the glue for the early Burritos, he held them together when there was no full time drummer (although in fairness to Chuck Blackwell, he deputised for early gigs), and was the only lead player (unless you count Hillman on mandolin).
Having said that, he was always keeping the eye towards the future, before the FBBs released their debut he was also rehearsing with Rick Nelson's Stone Canyon Band.
If you've heard Pete play on the Ventures track 'Blue Diamond' in '64, his tone and style that he later used on so many rock records is there, fully developed. Of course he totally played like a rock-beat lead guitarist when he was with Sir Raleigh & The Cupons. Absolutely different sound, Pete did not play one atypical steel lick while Johnny Meeks the other guitarist didn't play and obvious country or rockabilly licks.. they actually had a total pop-rock sound going on.
Pete Kleinow was listed as the songwriter on a Milt Forester single from around 1962 on the Toppa label. He played with Milt for about a year or so. Not sure if it's Pete on the single, if he is he's playing the part of Mooney, although it sounds a little loose for Moon... eccentric, so it's probably Pete.
What I'm saying is, the guy had his style-his sound, but totally broke away from it when he felt the need.
I'm going to miss Pete, a totally lovable character.

Very sad to see Sneaky has passed. Obviuosly a great and very innovative player and person. That video is from the Movie Festival Express, which chronicles the trans canada train tour, which paired the burritos upwith the Dead, Janis Joplin and a buncha others..kinda a mini woodstock on wheels. The movie is good. Thats about all you get of the burritos and Sneaky, but theres some other footage of a young steeler with long hair jammin on the train. Possibly Buddy Cage? check it out if you ever get a chance.

Guys Thanks for posting this info on Sneaky !!
I just received a email from Anita and I frankly have a knot in my throat...
If ever there was a "One of a kind" in my mind,Pete was it !
To be a Super musician,he had a attitude that caused people to gravitate to him....He was just a darn nice guy.
And HE COULD PICK !!
I know that Anita and the family appreciate the outpouring of affection here and other places from the musicians of the world.
Thanks for letting ME say my piece .
