I wouldn't play anything else. I had one for ten years that developed a little nick in the chrome. I wasn't upset in the least because I had put that bar through the wringer. I just figured it was time for a new one. I contacted Bill to order one and after mentioning the nick he refused to take any money for a new bar. I had a new one in a couple of days. You just can't beat that!

My more serious brain cell is actually interested. How does the chrome compare in "slickum" to the space age plastic bars (made from scrap stealth parts) that were the hot item a few years ago? I tried one of those going from the 3rd fret to the 15th and never did find it again? I gotta get a grip!

That bar has been my "one and only" for years.Yes-even with the"diamond" in the nose except, mine is my birth stone (emerald).!!! It shows up good if you ever get a spot on you when you do the solo or fills. Hey-- not very often these days!
No one makes them any better in my opinion !
If you play steel , you owe it to yourself to at least , try one !!!!! They are the BEST !!!

"Slickum"? After using this new 15/16' BJS from Bobbe, The 1' I been using feels like someone dipped it in polygrip.(unknown mfgr) I tried to talk Doug out of one of his Zercon bars last year in Waterloo, but he wouldn't let one go. Hard to come by these days. This BJS is the best I've ever used (for what that's worth) practice...practice....practice

I must agree, the BJS bar is the best I have ever seen or used. I have two of them, one with my birthstone (November). I had problems in the past with the small plating defect and Bill Stroud replaced the bar on the spot. No questions asked. I also had a cracked birthstone and he fixed it for me right there in his booth at the convention many years ago. Never had a problem since. I also love the plated Dunlop fingerpicks he offers with the same hard chrome plating. They are pricey, $7.50 per pair, but they last forever. I had a pair for over ten years before I lost one of them somewhere. I now keep several sets in all my steel, dobro, and banjo cases. I have had a few with the plating chip along the edge, but it is very rare. I put BJS and Bill Stoud above all other bar manufacturers. I wish he would make a "Scheerhorn" style dobro bar.

In my humble opinion I think BJS steel guitar bars are the best in the business. My first BJS bar was a ten string 7/8 with a sapphire stone. Now I also have a 12 string 7/8 with my birthstone (February). I think they are worth every penny.

I collect bars and have about 50 of them. Most are on display on a shelf and never get used.
BJS makes great bars, no question about it. But they are not the only great bars on the market. I think the John Pearse bars are just as good. A little different, but definately in the same league.
And I think the Zirconia bars are actually better. I played a BJS for years, and was very happy with it, but once I tried the zirconia bar, I was hooked and had to have one.
If I lost my Z bar, I'd use either the BJS or Pearse, but I'm not sure which.

I use a BJS and have for years and years. When I first got it the plating started coming off after just a few weeks. I called and a new one was sent out the same day with a stamped, addressed box to ship the old one back. Apparently they had a bad batch. It was no questions asked treatment, just let's get this taken care of so your a satisfied customer. Great bar, great people, great company. Now, having said all that, I love my zirconia bar also. I use both bars at every gig. I use the BJS for all of my "effects" type programs (overdrive, distortion, etc..) or when I want a brighter sound. I use the zirconia for everything else. I've got a couple of songs that I'm switching bars right in the middle of them!! I think every steel player should have one of each, if they ever make anymore of the zirconia bars.
