Rock: Jimmy Page... The Lemon Song, and as much as I hate to say it, the solo on Stairway to Heaven is a classic, Carlos Santana... Black Magic Woman, Every solo Jimi Hendrix ever took, Every solo Eric Clapton took with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers. Blues: BB King... The Thrill is Gone, Freddy King... Hideaway. Country: Albert Lee... Country Boy, Don't toss us away, Ray Flacke... the solo he did on the Ricky Scaggs video of Don't Get Above Your Raisin, Roy Nichols... Working Man's Blues and everything else he did, Reggie Young... Anymore, Thats the Way Love Goes. As far as Jazz goes, Any solo by Wes Montgomery, George Benson, Barney Kessell and Herb Ellis. These are but a few of my all time favorites.

Yes!! The Complete Paul Desmond RCA Victor Recordings featuring Jim Hall. His guitar playing on these sides is transcendently good. And Desmonds gorgeous & witty alto playing was never better than here.

For Gary Walker.....
'My Baby Thinks he's a Train' was Albert Lee, not Vince Gill.
One of my favourites is Albert (again!) on Rodney Crowell's 'Til I Can Gain Control Again'.
Denny Wright on Lonnie Donegan's 'Cumberland Gap'(1957) - pure excitement!
Chet Atkins - 'One Mint Julep'.
James Burton - 'Hello Mary Lou' and 'Milk Cow Blues' - both with Ricky Nelson.
....and James again - 'Tiger Man' with Elvis from the movie 'That's The Way It Is'.
Anything (almost) from Jimmy Olander.
Oh yes.... Brent Mason on 'Pop a Top' by AJ - that modulation is a masterpiece.

Hey Dave Van Allen....Thanks for listing "Lazy" & "Crossroads"...I did not think of them, but they are great. I was surprised at the last Guitar Player interview with Clapton...he says that the lead in Crossroads is crap, & that he even thinks that he is off the beat with the rest of the band...(Hey...It's only rock & roll)
And Lazy on Live In Japan proves that Blackmore was years ahead of his time.
Now you have me thinking of classic live recordings...I must mention "Get your Ya-Ya's Out" by the Stones...great stuff!!!
[This message was edited by Terry VunCannon on 24 May 2004 at 12:35 PM.]

Wow lot of good stuff. Brad Paisley's instramentals are smoking. But, the guy I've giged with the last couple of weeks, Andrew Zendahaus, IS Brent Mason, Eddie Van Halen, and SRV, all rolled into one. No lie, he has got to be one of the top 5 guitar players I've ever heard, period!! Could be making the big bucks, but he's in the Navy for 2 more years.
He's in the finals (top 5 or 6) of the "Guitarmageddon" competition. Finals are June 5 in Dallas, TX.

Wowee, what a list of great pickers. BUT... there are a couple of guys that have been inadvertently overlooked in this long list.
First, I cannot even believe that no one (unless I overlooked it) has even given an honorable mention to Stevie Ray Vaughn. Come on now. His version of "Little Wing" is one of my personal favorites. I could sit and listen to it for hours, over and over.
Then, what about Keith Urban? Good lord have mercy. Anybody ever hear him do a song called "Clutterbilly" with "The Ranch" band?
It'll make you swallow your gum.
