Then he put out that lousy Chris Gaines cd
I'm one of the five or six people in the world who actually likes that CD (got it for Christmas one year). I was very surprised when I got it,- "What? Garth Brooks can sound like this???"

Maybe he'll soon have a "personal message" posted on his website, lamenting the fact that the baby turned out not to be his and they've finally located Chris Cagle's baby... And maybe we'll luck out and they will reissue those repulsive, multi-colored shirts so all of the bad karaoke singers can wear them to take our minds off the fact that they can't sing.

Mr Haney on "Green Acres" is a good substitute if you need a Garth fix.

Theresa, Steve has been relatively skinny for quite awhile now.

I know I for one have not been waiting with baited or any other kind of breath for his return.
Actually, that should be "bated" breath, meaning "reduced, or moderated", rather than "baited" breath...unless, of course, you're like this guy..

I couldn't really care less about Garth Brooks, but it makes me wonder what Garth Hudson is up to. Anybody know whatever happened to him? He was one strange genius. Really admired him and was inspired by him as a player and as a person.

Yeah, I'm off topic, but I figured more people would read it here than on an official Garth Hudson thread...who??? Image

... which reminds me: What ever became of Rock Hudson? Oh, I suppose I could start my own thread, but then nobody would read it either... Hey! I think this thread has now drifted so far off-topic, it's probably best that it be closed? All in favor? AYE!

There is a nice little brook down at the end of my yard. Even is known to have some native brook trout, but none related to Garth Brooks; although some may be hiding under some rocks, none to my knowledge are related to Rock Hudson, and none of them drove a Hudson for that matter. Although Brook Shields--to the best of my knowledge--does not weigh as much as Garth Brooks, probably doesn't know who Garth Hudson is, more-than-likely never drove a Hudson, but IS, incidently, into acting, just like the late Rock Hudson. So...there might just be a link.

What can I say, it's a cold, damp Sunday afternoon and I should be taking a nap.

Perhaps when I wake up this thread will have been rightfully locked up and we can start talking about Kenny Chesney. Image
[This message was edited by Webb Kline on 09 October 2005 at 12:39 PM.]

To postulate Garth as the savior of country is interesting, but perhaps ignores the fact that Garth will go where the money is, and apparently that isn't in the real country genre. He'd be good for 1 or 2 real country albums, at best, just like the first time. Then we'd get "roped" back into the trapeze acts and guitar smashing concerts.

In fairness to old Garth, my guess is that he gave a lot more guitars to kids than he smashed on stage. Still, I didn't appreciate that either; nor the display of one of his smashed guitars in the Country Music HoF.

Chart Beat (Billboard) October 13, 2005

LOUDER THAN 'THUNDER': Garth Brooks breaks his own record for the highest debut on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart since it was first compiled from airplay data supplied by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems in 1991. Brooks has held the record for just over 14 years.

His eighth chart entry, "The Thunder Rolls," crashed onto the chart at No. 19 the week of May 18, 1991. No song has debuted higher until this week. Brooks makes his first appearance on this chart since June 2003 with his 76th chart entry, "Good Ride Cowboy" (Pearl), new at No. 18.

That incredible debut appears to tie the previous highest debut on the country chart. The week of Dec. 23, 1978, Eddie Rabbitt opened at No. 18 with the title song from the Clint Eastwood flick, "Every Which Way But Loose."

On the Hot 100, "Good Ride Cowboy" is only the sixth chart entry for Brooks, and his first since "Wrapped Up in You" peaked at No. 46 in December 2001. "Cowboy" is new at No. 93

Nevertheless, he's a millionaire, about a hundred times over.

Wow what a statement.Since when is an out of work barroom sideman a peer?
Nice one there retro!
Just sitting here wondering how many of his peers ever drew a crowd of almost a million or a phenominal TV audience as did his central park concert.
Well, you got a point there retro. I know Merle would have never drew that kinda crowd! There's someone I respect for "where he went and what he accomplished with his music" But then in his prime time he wasn't playing to a bunch of clueless idiots that buy anything the record company tells them is the latest greatest. Nor did he have a traveling circus act with smoke and mirrows, swinging on ropes.
There is a big difference between respect and Jealousy.
Sho is, lots of folks be jealous of someone with his limited talent making that kind of money. Just goes to show Nashville can make a star out of a monkey. Altho, he's not the worst performer I've seen or heard. Kenny Chesney is!

Yes Garth is rich and successful in todays music industry. Maybe he'll go down in some book of world records as making more money and drawing a bigger crowd than anyone in music history! Altho its a pity he'll never be known for penning or recording what's known as "a standard"...SSTFU<--- whatever cyber talk that means.
