I think I did the wrong thing by pawning my 1956 sunburst Strat for sixty dollars.

Wow a turquoise pre-CBS strat for $50.00 at a yard sale. Didn't think that sort of thing happened anymore.

This is also certainly not something that happens very often (in New York anyway), two years ago, my roommate found a very early steel made by Lamar on the street in Brooklyn. It was a black keyless S-10, 3X4 which was fully functional except for missing its pedal rods. Turned out it had been stolen out of a practice space/warehouse in Staten Island eight years ago. Think of the stories that steel could tell. We contacted the original owner (or I should say Lamar did) but he didn't want it back.

THEN there is the guy on the other side of the deal like ME. I traded a Gibson J200 for a Framus, just because I needed an electric in 1963. DUMD DUMB DUMB

Speaking of Neumann U47's and U67's, our National radio station YLE ( owned by the Government ) used to auction all the used gear, that the station wasn't using anymore. Take a note, that we're talking about a broadcasting company equivalent to NBC or CBS, so all of the gear was high end and during the decades there was a lot of it; Studers, Telefunkens, Neumanns, etc. Anyways, a friend who works there, said they sold the Neumanns back in the 80's for five dollars a piece, or if you bought more than three, you got them for four bucks a piece. jl, I'd like to hear more stories like yours.
I've always heard these"I bought this Tele for 10.00" stories, but I've been all over the country, and I have YET to run into one of these deals!
I sold a Martin D-35 for 650.00, for gas money.
Sold a '67 Tele to a kid who worked in the grocery store in my hometown. 200.00, and he paid me 20.00 a week. That was a lot of whiskey back then!
Sold a Strat to a friend's son, for a hundred bucks. The kid wanted to learn to play, and I remembered back when I wanted a good guitar----the kid's dad STOLE the Strat, and used the money to buy dope.(He's in prison now, nearly 15 years later)
So what about it? Anybody else let something go?

My wife use to have a little "Art" shop in Chatsworth Ca. She and her partner did t-shirts, greeting cards, logo's and had many folks who put crafts & other artwork on consignment at the shop. Once a month they would have a "parking lot" festival and all the vendors would set up booths and local folks would get spaces and it was an "Art show/Garage sale" all rolled up in one.
I was there very early on Sat morning to work on the shift linkage of my wife's Toyota.
I spent the first 2 hours of the "Art Show" with my feet sticking out from under the Toyota as I rebuilt the linkage with parts from the junkyard. Finally got it all put back and when I crawled out from under the car, I was sitting right next to an old beat up cheap cardboard guitar case that looked like it had been to hell and back.
I reached over and flipped the lid open with one finger tip, trying to not get grease all over it, and when it flopped back, I was able to read "C.F. Martin" on the headstock. 00-21C nylon string!!!!!!!
All the strings were there, but only the 3 wound strings were wrapped on the tuning pegs, the treble strings were all wound up in a wad by the bridge as all 3 of the "plastic barrels" on the treble side keys were broken. I flipped the lid closed and ask the gal who was selling it how much she wanted for it. "I'll take $5.00 since its broken at the top end".
Almost broke my wrist getting that $5.00 bill out of my wallet!!!
The next day, I took the treble side tuning keys off, and the local music store let me go through their junk box and I found 3 perfect replacement rollers that they gave me for free.
Turns out the serial number is only 5 or 6 off from Willie's Martin.

Been trying to think of a musical instrument, but the "one that got away" for me was an old mercedes that my dad would't loan me the $500 to buy. It was in a blackberry grove, and had those stupid doors that opened "up" anyway..

I did have a "Zinger" that went with my ex.

Maybe next lifetime..

I picked up a 1930 Martin, Style O-18 for $50.

Does that count?

It's not real pretty, but it sure sounds sweet!
