Herb I think you are right about Bennett.
Also I think he used to do work at the Troubador for all the (ahem) aspiring folk stars who needed a bit of musical muscle behind them.

Ray Montee, I know where you are coming from with your post, but there's a lot more to the Nashville situation than Hollywood producers.
It goes back before Urban country, probably back to the pop-country hits of the late 1960s and early 1970s, even the so called outlaw era where country artists were obtaining massive hits that were crossing over into the pop market.
In a way you could say that the enviroment it created was one where labels and producers were looking for the next crossover, not just a hit, but a crossover mega-hit. They weren't thinking Hollywood or rock, they were thinking $$$
