Ricky,
GREAT idea..........keep up the great work!!
John & I talked about some other improvements to older Buds. I have a friend who machines parts looking at a part to make, that fits in front of the baskets. Then use nylon nuts on stationary rods? I'll have to see if it works. If it does I'll put some pictures on a new thread.

Hey Neil; I'm not sure what your trying to accomplish, can you explain more? If your wanting to use nylon tuners for a rack and Barrel Sho-bud; by bypassing the barrel; All you need is a 1/8" shaft collar behind the rack on the rods that pull a finger that only has 1 change on it. That's already been done and it's real easy; you just take the barrel off and slip the shaft collar on the rod behind the rack and set screw it down to a rod that has threads at the finger end and nylon tuner on it and your good to go. But of course you can't do that on the rods that pull a finger twice.
But I'll tell you that the down-side is a stiffer pull.

Ricky & John,
I have a tool & die man working on some parts for changing a barrel system to a nylon tuning system. What I have in mind will only require new pull rods w/nylon tuners & one "pull Bar" with 10 set screws for each rack. I'll let you know if it works for me or not? I told him to take his time, so I don't know for sure when the parts will be ready to try? Thanks guys for all the GREAT work you do for the Old Sho-Buds!!!

Great idea!! It would be great to only have to carry one type of tuning tool in my seat. (and we all know how painful THAT can be!!)
My 10th string rod lost it's end cap several times on gigs. I got pretty adept at driving it back on by bonucing the rod (tuning end down) on the base of my mike stand (ad-hoc anvil). I finally had it brazed on there by Dave Borisoff (thanks, Dave) but the washer is long gone.

Hey Dave, I knew you were a dab hand on fixing things good. Maybe one day if you have the time, I'll come over to you and if you have spare bit...I know you gave me some, you can change a few pulls to my Carter uni. Still no news on my Sho-Bud, I don't want to hurry David Langdon, as he's been a little buisy. Cheers mate
