If you have 2 steels, should they be the same?

y'know, Mike, it never occured to me to measure them; quite likely they are not the same scale length, but it has never been an issue. I will measure them and get back to you if no one else beats me to it.Dave, do your Zum and ZB have the same scale length, and it not, it is a problem?
What is an "issue" is the relative locations of the knee levers- which lever lowers my E's is different on each (LKR on the ZB RKL on the Zum)
I had worked up most of the tunes I played at the recent Virginia show on the ZB which I tend to leave set up in my practise room; I played the show on the Zum, and once I missed it (the E lower) the first time I remembered pretty darn quick which axe I was playing (ha ha)
Muscle memory vs actually thinking while one is playing...
[This message was edited by Dave Van Allen on 26 May 2006 at 09:26 AM.]

Dave, why don't you switch the knee levers around on one of your steels so they are the same on both? (I imagine the Zum is a lot easier to work on.)

I agree with Kenny Drake on this one. Currently, I have an Emmons p/p D10 8p, 5ks (standard Emmons copedant); and an Emmons p/p S12 7p, 4ks (basic Newman universal). At one point I also had a third guitar; Sierra S14 8p, 7ks (Bill Stafford's universal copedant); Each guitar has different knee lever and (some) pedal arrangements. As Kenny said, because of those differences, I discovered new things about each guitar simply through comparing the different ways I needed to play identical passages on each. A unique learning situation.

I have been watching the steels for sale and thought about getting another MSA D10 to leave set up in the practice room. I would have them both exacally the same. My playing would be enough to make them sound like they are set up different!
