Well I've had my GFI a couple weeks now and I still like it.
I had to move the two inside knee levers and put a 1" lift kit on it because of my long fat legs but it wasn't a major job.
I changed the copedent and that was pretty easy too.
I've already dealt with the people at GFI to order longer pedal rods. ( I don't like the looks of rod extenders ).The price was reasonable and whoever I talked to was pleasant to deal with. So there's another plus.
The only two things I've found so far that was less than perfect is the non-adjustable legs, which I figured out a fix for. ( If any one is interested in how I did it, send me an email. It's too lengthy to get into here) and the GFI I pickups. It does have good tone but it's just a little too bright for my liking. So I'll work on that next.
All in all, it's a keeper.

GFI is the perfect no nonsense "work horse" steel guitar.
The perfect way to get the job done with no problems if you are a hard working pro-steel player. Ask Mike Sigler(Holly Dunn), Buddy Charlton(formally Earnest Tubb), Ralph Mooney (Waylon Jennings), Doyle Grisham(Jimmy Buffett), Ronnie Miller(Charlie Pride), Norman Hamlett(Merle Haggard), Mike Fried(Gary Allen), Charlie Archer(Loretta Lynn), Pat Seivers(Nashville Studios and formally Eddie Rabbitt) and ton of other great front line professional players. (and me, unemployed)
Again, "Light, Strong, Great Tone, Zero maintanance", great support from the factory and the dealers. Near instant delivery and color choices beyond the imagination.
A no nonsense steel guitar, buy it and all you have to do is play it.

GFI 2's, Steve.
With all the options out there now you might like something better. But honestly, it was the combination of a pro model with the 2's that spun my beanie.
They're similar to a 10-1 (GFI pickups are George L's last I heard but wound specifically for GFI) but there was an "in your face" tone that the GFI 2 in the pro model had that was all there without the brightness of the GFI 1.
You can try a 10-1 (& others), but I honestly think you'll like the GFI 2 better.
Compare shopping is a beautiful thing.
My 3 cents.
[This message was edited by Rex Thomas on 28 November 2005 at 06:44 AM.]

Yes GFI ROCKS!
I bought a new GFI Ultra from Bobbe last July. I've played "out" a half dozen times since then and literally hundreds of hours practicing. I'm a little embarrassed to admit I've yet to replace the strings that came on the guitar and NO breakage. I've had lotsa compliments on the tone. Stays in tune like a rock. Pedal action is the smoothest I've ever played. Couldn't be happier with this instrument.
