Thanks again Guys. Jody I'll try that as soon as the little darlin gets up this morning.

She was fit to be tied about this yesterday so I've got a little ways to go yet but I'm slowly wearing her down. I figure by the time the weekend's over I'll just about have her sold on the idea.

Rick.. all kidding aside,, If you guys can afford it,whats the problem??. I'm sure she knows how much you love playing steel and how important this is to you.

I would maybe do a good faith "sell off" of some gear you really don't use much to help finance the new purchase.. That works pretty well, and I'm sure your lovely bride would appreciate the fact that you are willing to make a few sacrifices..

anyway, I bet before long there will be a "new addition" to the Garret houshold.. a four legged one without a wagging tail... bob

I tried all of that stuff and it worked for several years, but now when she calls me my cell phone recognizes her number and plays "I'm Gonna Miss Her".

Words Women Use...

GO AHEAD: This is a dare, not permission. Don't do it.

THAT'S OK: This is one of the most dangerous statements that a woman can make to a man "That's OK" means that she wamts to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

FINE: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
[This message was edited by LeRoy Sawyer on 05 May 2005 at 06:53 AM.]

[This message was edited by LeRoy Sawyer on 05 May 2005 at 06:54 AM.]

Rick you can always do like a friend of mine does. He brings it over to my house and says can i leave this at your house while i break it into my wife.MOnths later i ask him if he wants to take his steel home yet, and he tells me as soon as i tell My wife i made the last payment. SHe said, i could have one after it is paid for. He finaly took it home. It was a great playing steel he told me play it till he broke I broke it in that way he could tell her it was used hehehehe. I finaly told him, you wife knows you where a musician before she married you.
But my wife asked me she told me she said if i made it through the first cycle of Chemo and i wanted anything in the world what would i want and i told her a new Zum
SO guess what i got 4 months later. SO i am like the other players here i am lucky i don't have the problem of telling her any lies at all.

Rick,
I've only owned one brand spanking new steel and it was bought over 30 years ago when I was a single, care-free lad! Now, with a boss/night-shift supervisor, it's a little/ALOT different!! Suggest you have Plan A, new steel pitch and Plan B just in case she rejects Plan A. Plan B is: old steel restoration by one of our forum brother pros because this would probably "SAVE" +/- half the cost of a new steel! There, you have it---go for it--and don't forget this is Mother's Day weekend! (Breakfast in bed, etc., might also give you some extra help with the steel) Image GOOD LUCK--CARL

I would go with the "it will pay for itself in no time" story. Usually, this is true if you are playing out a lot.

All of my equipment has paid for itself over and over again.

Also, I don't have that problem either Smiley Image

I told my wife that I wanted a new steel and she said "sure, just as soon you get me a new kitchen."

Looks like I'll still be playing that old Pro I for a while.

Larry, you'd better be nice to that wife of yours. Do you know how hard it is to get a good bass player?! By the way, please tell your wife that if you irritate her, she can always come and stay with us! Image

But dear if you fall and break your hip
it makes a great splint till the ambulance comes.

You can use the old one to slice eggs for the bridge club.

it keeps me form chasing women, I ain't got time,
don't complain.

It's safer than a motorcycle.

I can't drink and play the darned thing,
so it keeps me sober.
[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 06 May 2005 at 11:57 AM.]

Rick, when I ordered my new Rains I did not tell my wife, I thought I would surprise her with my new toy but I walked in one day and she said.. " who is Bob Rains" and I said just a guy I know , why? She said.." he called and needs to talk to you about the new steel he is building for you"......WELL. There is this Caddy she had been eyeing for a while and I started to like the looks of it myself, couple of days later it was parked under the carport. There is no good excuse, just do it .... play now, pay later!!!! Good luck, by the way, the blue Rains you were talking about is the one he built for me.

I told my wife I was going to buy a Harley.

Harleys scare her to death.

She said I could have anything I wanted as long as it wasn't a Harley!

Worked for me.

I told my wife: "I can either have one woman and a new guitar once every few years, or play one guitar and have a new woman every once and a while."

The new guitars started looking pretty good to her.

Farris, I was up all night working on this problem. We might have to break down and let Larry come too. She could be attached to him (you know how sentimental women are. I once I had a pair of shoes with no soles left and I still couldn't throw them away!)I have breeding possums in the yard, so we could feed him cheaply!

Larry, tell your wife that my husband (a drummer) keeps perfect time!

I know this seems off-topic, but the moral is: Better make your excuse a good one, or you could lose your bass player! (Not Larry; he's sweet.)
